Another drawing from me

Postby beautifulbay » Thu Nov 22, 2007 8:21 am

This is my pegasus drawn from a real popular photo put up as a reference from another forum...I just had to draw this horse and add a hint of a wing to him....This image is a little
ight compared to the actual piece, it's hard getting the darks in there with a camera....but you get the idea.

great drawing - i like how it's got a dramatic feel

use a program to increase contrast or something to show the darks better. then lower the highlights
Let us unleash what dwells within.

Beau, I would do some painting if I were you. I think you have a real gift.
Perfection is what drives an artist.
The inability to achieve perfection is what creates a work of art.

Halleck: Thank you for the tip and comments...I'm kind of lazy when it comes to computer programs :) When I tried altering the highlights, everything went darker, and just made it look worse....I'm not very good at working my images on the pc.

John...thank you so much! I will consider getting myself a canvas to practice on....it's been a long time since I've even tried. I was never happy with my work with a
ush....I was frustrated that I couldn't get my details in very well. But...that was also a long time ago....sometimes all one needs is a good push! :D

Good work. Now, get busy with some kneaded rubber on the mane and wings, including the root of the mane where it shows on the crest of the neck. They should match the feel of the rest, IMO. Also, I'd "edge" the face of the horse -- the nasal ridge running from the eye to where the soft tissue of the nostrils flare. It's "too fatty," and that part of a horse is very, very boney, not soft. The nostrils, eye, and the zygomatic ridge and ocular processes are exceptionally drawn, and do not need any touch-ups. The ears are good. Now for the
idge. Add some shadow to "pull" the
idle away from the cheek just a bit.

Just my five cents. Dilute with water, as I mean no offense.

DLK, it is good to get such opinions on my work, and I appreciate help, not offended by it. I have this framed, will have to pull it down and take it apart, but it will be worth it...After looking at what you said, I agree...so I'll touch it up and post it again. Thanks!

Ok, I did what touch ups I could...this has already been sprayed to fix, so using the eraser was out of the question, unfortunately...so I blended more darks around those areas you mentioned instead. I also added some shadow and edged up that area on the nose line....though I wasn't too sure where you were seeing the soft spots, so I just did what I saw. I darkened a couple of darks, and am happy with it.
The photo is terrible, yet again, as the flash is making my graphite shine...but I hope it's enough to give a relatively good image. (I don't know how to turn off the flash.... )
What do you think?

It IS exceptional. I think I'd leave it be now. It's "whole," and very, very dramatic and beautiful.

I thought I'd share that I finally got a good image of Pegasus with great clarity....looks much more like the original drawing, so here he is again....I'm very proud of this piece and would much rather he look the way he should.

Thank you very much Jenn. I'm starting some painting classes in school, so we'll have to see how I do with it. I'm not totally trusting my skills with a
ush at this time on my own, I simply have very little experience with paints.

I like the improved version of your Pegasus. If you are not comfortable with paint, you might want to give colored inks a try.
