My latest, an Arabian foal/filly.
Been trying to work on my edges, I hope I've improved with this one.
It's a soft pastel(some sticks, mostly Derwent pencils) on Ampersand pastel board.

CC's welcome. Thanks!

Good Morning

I love your use of colors in this peice. The horse is well done and has lots of personality. The pea green background just makes the carmel colored foal pop!
Nice job...
What I lack in talent I more than make up for with enthusiasm!

Very nice horse, the portrait gives off a sense of importance. I like the turn of the head against the neck. Very well done.

Thanks Michael for your critique.
I had a heck of a time with the BG as it started out something completely different than what it finished as  . I was hoping to achieve a bit more depth than what I have accomplished, but unfortunately, my available stock of Pastel pencil colors is a bit slim, and couldn't get the right mix to achieve a darker green hue w/o it looking cartooney, so I'm glad you find this BG acceptable. I like it too!
I'm going to continue working to achieve better depth and dimension in my work, as well as getting a better eye for proportions.
Well, I've blabbed on for long enough  , thanks again Michael!

Thanks Julie!
You know(as you were following WIP), that this BG started as something a bit different, but it came out OK.
Thanks for you comments!
No...sadly I don't own a horse anymore. I haven't for about 20 years. Before that, I owned 6 Polish
ed Arabs for many years. I still to this day miss them all!

Thanks so much William for your critique. I happy with this piece, but you know how it is...
I am already seeing how I could have improved, will hopefully put those thoughts into action in next one!

OMG!!!!! Barb!

Hello

I have not words to say how beautiful your Cuteness is. I love your art B.
I am working on my first oil painting very hard. Actually I am forcing myself to finish this work. It is hard and messy. I hope it will look OK when finished.
Very soon I will show my work here. Oil do not dry quickly. Completely different medium.

I was unhappy with this one, so I did a bit of reworking it.
I'm more satisfied now  Added more depth, don't you think?

Barb,

Cute, precious, and adorable baby!!!!

Fantastic work!!!

I love this (horse lover of course)! I see that you are still working on it, maybe just a little darker shadow almost black (I see you already added some more) around the back of the cheek and wrinkle in the neck. That will give it more depth and
ing out nose.

Just a suggestion, hope you don't mind.

Your friend,

Karen

Thanks for the suggestion karen! I took it to heart(and pencil :D )...here is the piece now...hopefully it is more improved. LOL...I should have just left this in WIP...sorry Mods...wasn't intentional!
Have you ever thought you were finished with a piece and then it "nags" at you to change it!!! This one keeps doing that to me!
Here's the latest version(won't call it finished just yet...let's see if nagging has stopped  )
Scanner is not reflecting the colors very accurately, so i hope you can see the changes...it does look much more 3D now. I gave some more dimension to right side of muzzle, and increased the darks, and added some fur texture.

Perfect!!! Glad you took my suggestion.

I know exactly what you mean about continuing to work on a piece "After" you thought it was done. I did some more work on the mountain and lake painting on slate. It's in my living room, kept looking at it, and then did a little more work on it.

I guess as long as you don't do a final spray or varnish, it's not done. I don't apply the final finish for a few months, just in case I decide to add or change something.

Have a great day!!

Your friend,

Karen

Sorry to bump this one up again, but I kept being bugged by something...and i finally figured out what it was! The end of the muzzle had no depth. With the dark pigment mark it was distracting and so i changed it.
The scanner is playing with the dark blue shading, but you get the idea.

No need to comment, as i appreciate all the comments from before(unless you want to), just wanted to show this redo. Thanks.

Hi Barb,

Wow fantastic update. I can deffo see improvement. Kudos for persevering it's paying off.

I have several that nag at me  . When they stop doing that I have to ask my self is it really "done" or have I just gotten lazy/given up. "It's when we stop falling that we stop learning" (what my ski coach always told us :) ) .
