My 4th attempt at painting

I haven't done much art because I usually don't like it that much, however over Christmas
eak I did a painting and now that summer is here I've had time to do a few more. This is my 4th one, let me know what you think. My fiance and family always tell me that they like my stuff, well because they're my family, so I don't buy it. I'm very critical of my own stuff. Please give me some honest opinions. Its acrylic on paper. Thanks.
Oh and ignore the pinkish cast - the lens on my camera is acting funky so all of my pics are pink, this is also the reason that it looks a little washed out.

This is GREAT. I think most of us are more critical of our work than others because we believe that we have the ability to do better and therefore we keep doing more to do better, also since we create it we see little things that others don't. At some point we must accept that a piece is done and yours is marvelous.

I think your piece is fabulous!
Your proportions are great, detail is wonderful, and the tonal values are exceptional.
I especially like the subject rendered in a "bust', rather than a portrait style!

May I ask specifically what paper(surface) you used, and what range of colors?

Ame, You have a very high level of drawing skill. So all you have to do is paint. Learn the differnt paints and colors. And surfaces. It is color and detail that builds a good painting. You have the skills. You have been drawed to painting. You will learn to love it. And I can see you will do very well in the art market. Keep working. Good Luck.

You are already pretty masterful. If you can translate this into oil or acrylics I'm sure you could earn a living on Portrait commisions. If you couldn't do it...I'm afraid none of us could.

Thanks for all the comments. That pic is acrylic - I've never tried oil before mainly because I've never really tried painting before. My family owns a ceramic shop so one day I grabbed a blue on the way out and bought some of the painting paper from AC Moore and a white (paint) and started painting - that pic is entirely in that one shade of blue, and white. When I get some more money I'll get some more colors I guess. I have tons of other stuff and hope to set up some kind of simple website soon, but until then...

I like all three of these. I think your use of a singlular color adds a uniquie feeling, I'm not sure how to describe it, to the portraits that is lost with multiple realistic colors. You are creating something that evokes feelings and emotions which is more than just a great rendering of the subject. I think I get the feeling of someone who is distant, cold, or hard with the blues. I wonder what effect you would get with some other colors or the combination of two colors. Very impressive work and I look forward to seeing more.

I love it! The ideal of making the portrait a bust
