Need help finding more information about this piece.

Picked this piece up at an estate sale. I know it is late 70s early 80s, but that is it. Homeowner abandoned the house for 12 years and only paid the lawn man and the pool man to maintain the appearance. Any and all information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Keith

It measures 17"x"36 and weighs about 40 lbs. Appears to made out of some type of concrete resin.

No idea but I love the 'Kings' - thanks for the close-up, I thought it was bronze! E

Hi there...

did a little digging with very minimal luck for your peice... it is definitely art about Chess Peices... each are on bases, and all are peices on a chess board. King, Queen, Bishop, Rook, Knight and pawn. Positive side, is that there was a lot of art around Chess during the time period you mentioned 70s and 80s.

I searched on the insignia too.. unsure if it was a WY or a CJY... WY didnt turn up much , but CJY turned up an Artist named Ching-Jang Yao, who lived from 1941 - 2000, and did much art that showed people.. I however was unable to find anything that showed that she did any Chess related art... so I am not sure if she would be your artist or not.

Sorry...

I don't think it is Ching-Jang Yao...Because I did some digging too and this is his signature:

I'll search a bit more though. :)

Actually! Now looking at the signature, it almost looks like a sideways "Kanji" or Chinese character (maybe in calligraphy) but I'm not sure...
