Jakes Rocks

Hi Everyone!

Well here I am again! Always have something going on.

Laid out a wilderness painting of Jakes Rocks in Kinzua, Warren, Pa. Oils 16" x 20". I don't have much oil paint left, hope it holds out until this is finished. Need to order some from **** Blick.

There are around 8 separate waterfalls on this mountain. You have to hike up to see each one. This particular shot is the top scene I liked the tree line and sky peeking through.

Hiking up the mountain is easy, coming back down is a real challenge if you slip, who knows when you would stop rolling. I grab trees coming back down.

There are many slippery glacier boulders, as you can see from the pic of this painting. I painted a little on the front boulder just to get a feel for it. I think I'm ready to continue with the rest.

Hello there Mike!

Thanks for following on this project. Pull up a chair for this one, going to take some time. There will be a lot to see in this painting.

I'm trying to show people the beauty of the area where I live. Pennsylvania is a very scenic state which most people don't ever see from the highways and roads. You need to hike into it.

I will post updates at the end of each day so not to bore anyone.

Todays Pic.

I'm at a stand still right now until the base paint on the boulders dries a bit. Paint is just smearing and not giving me any real texture. Seems I didn't get any progress done today.

In my photograph, my daughter-in-law, Desiree' is standing in front of the waterfall leaning into it with her hands, she is standing on a rock at the base. The water is splashing around her feet. I'm thinking of painting her in there for scale to the main enormous glacier boulder.

What do you think? Should I add Desiree'?

Don't know when the boulders will be completed. I didn't realize how much detail they have.

Hopefully, I'll get the texture in the large boulder right tomorrow. Right now it look like lines, I'm not happy with it yet. Must figure this one out.

Can't give an opinion on whether to include your Daughter-in-law, can you share the reference pic? Would be helpful to "see" what you are thinking about.

Here is the reference pic, must be crazy for posting this but here it goes.

Desiree', her mother, and dog are also in the pic.

Remember, I'm not a copy machine, so my rendering of this scene isn't going to be exact. I think it's close.

And an updated pic on the work I did last night.

I need to let the boulders dry a little more before applying the moss and other color variations. Also have to shape them a little more. Still working on this piece.

I added some trees while waiting for the boulders, I will continue working on the forest meanwhile.

Pennsylvania is filled with places like this.

To be there is very good for the soul. I love hiking or horseback riding through these local forests. I find it very refreshing and makes me feel like I don't have a care in the world. When there, I
eath easy, and my heart gets lifted for some reason.

Thank heavens I never got lost which is very easy to do around here.

When there is a precious moment of seeing the wildlife, it becomes one of life's memorable experiences. However, the wild life smells, hears, or sees you before you see them. And usually they hide or run before you have a chance to take a picture of see them at all.

Enough rambling.

Sorry for the delay in response karen!
I think this is coming along nicely!
I respect your intent to use the photo as a ref., and after seeing the ref. i would suggest just doing the landscape, maybe adding in something else instead of the photo's human subjects. Some small animal? Maybe a beaver? Just a thought, looking good so far!

Hi Barb,

I will wait until this gets closer to being finished before deciding on added subjects. I'm getting down to details now. Still have a lot of work to do on this painting.

Don't know about a Beaver because they are not common in this area. I know we have them in Pennsylvania, but haven't heard of any around here.

I worked on this piece today and added my daughter-in-law. I have some final touches to make and will work on the waterfall. The water isn't to my liking yet.

Should be finished within the next few days.

Finished this one up a little while ago. I'm posting a pic here and tomorrow morning I'll take another pic when the light is better to post in Fury.

I also attached a closeup of the human figure "Desiree'" and water.

This is my daughter-in-law, and my husband doesn't like the sexy way she is leaning into the waterfall.

He wanted me to put a raincoat on her.

When we are out on the boat and she takes of her shorts and top and sits on the front of the boat in her bathing suit, my husband gets all upset. Tells her to put her clothes back on.

He doesn't like men looking at her, because she has a knock out figure.

Karen this i have to say is a wonderful painting ...i love it very much ..................but there are just two things i have to add about this one that maybe you can think about


first off the water fall ,,,,,,,,,,the fall on the left is a bit to stright when it comes down ,,,,,,,,it seams that there should be water on the left side of the fall ................it just seams that when the water is comein down the water should be spilling off the left side a bit too in my eyes

and as for the girl in this ................i feel that it would be better to maybe be left out

i have been looking at this for some time ,,,,,,,,,,,and i am enjoying it very much .....................but i dont no about the girl there

let me look more karen at this ................i dont no if it is the color of the hair or what .................or the pants she has got on .....hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm i will be back .mike
