Winter and fall

Here's a 2 piece wall art made of handmade paper, twigs, dried leaves and painted with acrylics. Size: 9.5x 7.5. Some of you might know I don't feel all that secure about my 2D skills, so let me know what you think, where should I improve? Thanks, Erika

Erika,
I like that second one, your colors are very pretty. They look like small trees rising above mist.

Are you familiar with the salt technique they use with watercolors? These pieces made me think of it and I think it would be something for you to try with them in the future if it is something you like, it would add more texture and play with the colors that you like to use.

I really like the second one. It is beautiful. The first is nice, but it has a feeling of something missing and the background colors do not compliment as well as the second.

Natalie, I love the salt technique, but it doesn't seem to happen with the handmade paper. Maybe it needs to be very wet. I'll try again, thanks for reminding me.

Joe, can you give me an idea what is missing from the first one? It needs life? Like birds? Please let me know, I'm in the process of framing them today and I can still do something with it. I have someone very interested in them, so I need to get them ready ASAP.

Honestly, the frame is all it may need to
ing it together. Is it going to be framed in a side by side or top/bottom?

Side by side. The frames are quite nice, they may do it, like you said. Anyways I'll try to add a few falling leaves to the left side, there seems to be too much empty space. Then I'll decide what to do. Thanks for the input Joe.

Here they are Natalie. Birds, leaves did not look right. I think the fall one looks balanced. I wish I could keep them.

The frames really completed them. They both look wonderful, who ever is getting them must really be pleased. You should do more of this type of painting I think.

They look very nice, and have a beautiful feminine touch.
Looking at them now so it looks from a distance, you can see a landscape in them both now. The first looking like a lonely tree in a grassy meadow, the second again like tree tops in the mist or even shrubs in the snow. Very simple and pretty. Nice work.

oh...and you make the paper don't you? I've always wanted to try that.

I like them a lot too, the frames really
ought life to them. Painting and colour don't come naturally to me, but your encouragement sure helps a lot!

BB, making paper it's not difficult and it's a lot of fun. I love the textures you can get. There are books that are really helpful. Let me know if you're interested.

The book is titled 'Papermaking for the first time' by Rhonda Rainey. I found it really useful at the beginning. Later I developed my own technique...Good luck!

Well, they're not with me anymore. They've found a new home.

I'm happy and sad at the same time. I'm happy because I sold them myself without any outside help, through a little bit of self-marketing, website and personal communication. The new owner loves them and that's a wonderful feeling.
