Re: A Song Into Midnight

"Glad to see you continue to work on this in spite of comments about this and your work in general." Yes! The comments are meant as helpful suggestions. I haven't seen any mean spirited critiques in here. As a community we want to improve as artists and also help others do the same. I will...

Re: Watercolor Mare with Colt

Here's a work I did not to long ago. You can see that you don't have to get ridiculously detailed to make it look as if they are standing in grass. The knocked down trees are for added interest. It's good to let the world around your animals look good because it makes them more believable. Without t...

Re: Watercolor Mare with Colt

I would give the ground they are standing on some sort of form. They almost appear to be hovering if it wasn't for the shadows. It seems some sort of flat surface like concrete but I doubt that's what you're going for. Make it grass or dirt. Give the foreground some dimension.

Re: Seascape

Yeah, I think the sky might need to be a bit more dramatic. It's kind of bothering me, too. Thanks for looking and the comment.

Re: Watercolor Hunting Dog

This is a nice little watercolor. But there is one thing that is bothering me about the image. I think that, from the angle you have painted it, you would see at least a small part of his left ear. Maybe just the top of it, where it meets his head. Check your reference photo. That part just doesn't ...

Re: Been awhile, been busy

Great job. I'm hoping that it didn't lose that texturing when you were finishing it up and that it's only the way the photo was taken. I like the texture and the little bit of detailing you can see in the distant cliffs in the earlier shots. About that varnishing. Being fairly new to oils, having be...

Re: Cartoon

How dare you offer a suggestion without my approval. Having read it, however, I approve. Nah, I'll never do it. It was a suggestion made a long time ago when I was someone else. And by the way. I checked out your website. You've put together a nice body of work. I love that painting called, "Ol...

Re: Cartoon

Calvin and Hobbes! One of my favorite strips of all time. Watterson was terrific. I submitted a strip once but it was rejected by King's Cartooning Syndicate. I never really pursued it aggressively enough. I was turned down once and never tried again. I'm glad that you and your bride thought this wa...

Re: Seascape

Hi Carl. By the time I had read your critique I had already made some minor changes to the sky. Hardly noticeable, though, for some reason. On the original it shows up more clearly. I can see where some of the waves could use some darkening. I was actually doing that but as you know, with oils, it's...

Re: webcomic on webtoons: T-13 Hybrid Superhero

Seeing your work made me post an old cartoon I did a few years agao. I have it up in "Now Showing." Take a look and tell me what you think as one cartoonist to another.

Cartoon

After commenting on the work of a very talented young cartoonist here in our forum, I thought I might show an old cartoon I did years ago for a blog I had. It concerned the fact that kids, today , don't want to read anymore.

Re: webcomic on webtoons: T-13 Hybrid Superhero

Terrific work, Mike. I do cartooning also. Even submitted a cartoon strip to a newspaper cartooning syndicate many years ago. Back when poeple were still reading newspapers. Got a rejection letter, of course. Really like your use of color. Are you using a Wacom tablet, by any chance? My wife bought ...

Seascape

https://s14.postimg.org/jpa8gnkch/104_4158.jpg So there I was painting those rocks from my Moose painting, again. Was actually thinking of redoing the painting. Changed my mind but the rocks were done and they looked nice. Maybe I can use them, again, I'm thinking. Then, an epiphany. A seascape! No...

Re: A Song Into Midnight

Yes, I've also never been a fan of the "Primitive Style" of painting. Grandma Moses...etc.. But that might not be what you're going for, here. If you'd like to know where you need improvement, I'd say pay more attention to your drawing before laying down the paint. Look at your first post....

Re: Sunsets

I like this, too. I used to be interested in almost photographically realistic art when I was younger. As I got older the beauty of an impressionistic scene like this grew on me, more and more. I realize now that people know what a beach looks like, for instance. You don't have to beat them over the...

Re: BETTY BETTY

Well, I certainly hope that he accepts the criticism in the manner in which it was intended. Not to be an ***, but to be helpful. I'm glad you thought the same thing. I actually feel as though I'm going to get a headache if I stare at that upside down image too long.

Re: Grand Canyon VI

Did that guy want to know if he should smear tomatoes on his head to grow back his hair? Lol!!!!
Anyway, what problem? I don't see anything different from the rest of the drawing.
