Love your work www. Really. I'm a big bear fan, too. Love painting them. And yours is terrific.

Latest Painting. "The Getaway."

A Sockeye Salmon manages to escape the glutches of a Grizzly. I had fun playing with the splash and the bubbles. I wanted to try showing the splash from both above and below the water. You can tell me if I pulled it off,or not.

Re: A birthday present for my sister....

A few changes and a better picture. Sometimes I just can't leave my paintings alone. I think it's an improvement, though. Darkened it in a few spots and added a bit of cooler blue to the distant trees so they would drop back a bit more. Yellow in the bushes at the left to bring them forward.

Re: May I present, "Jungle Stream,"

More of a quick sketch, than anything else, but I'm getting it. I'm finding that it It's not easy for someone who has been a realist type of painter to fight the temptation to grab that thin little brush and even out all of those edges. But fight it I did!!!

Re: This Started Out As A Sketch

One sitting. A few hours, maybe. I actually had to trim the paper I worked on because the painting wasn't centered correctly. I just started anywhere because it was just practise. It was done on a 9" x 12" sheet and cut down to 8" x 11". Fun little painting.

This Started Out As A Sketch

This started out as a little throw away piece. I was practicing loosening up a bit. I decided to use a painting by one of my favorite artists, Tibor Nagy, as inspiration. But it turned into something I kind of like. What do you think?

Re: Latest Painting

Yeah, the fish is going to need some more detailing. And there's hardening those edges a bit, too. So I suppose this isn't quite as done as I had thought.

Re: Latest Painting

Never going to stop learning. I'm the first to admit that I don't know everything. This paper, though, is very nice. It's archival, so it can be used for more than just quick studies. And technically it IS ready to paint on, but I think that depends on the effect the artist wants with his paint. I t...

Re: Latest Painting

I think the fuzziness is because of the surface. I'm using Arches 140 lb oil paper for the first time. It's supposed to be ready for paint, but I noticed that the paint almost looked like water colors as I was working. I think the paint possibly runs a bit when applied. Not sure. Next piece I do I'm...

Latest Painting

Just finished. Maybe some more tweaking here and there, but I'm calling this done. Unless someone sees something amiss.

Re: Metal Rabbit Ring that bell! Sculpture

That's terrific! If only there was a way to animate so that he actually rings the bell. Lol! Great.

Re: Coming along slowly

Ooops...I guess I was one of those people. And the painting is moving along. I think it's going to be a good one. I'm not happy with the lower right corner. Those two straight lines created by the rocks. I'll put another rock in front to break that up. They'll be smaller rocks continuing on into the...

Re: Coming along slowly

Oh, you can say more. Why not? You're in New Mexico. Hot there, all year round. That would work , too. And what beautiful country to paint!

Re: Coming along slowly

Good morning Art Forums and it's denizens. Thanks guys. Carl, I guess unless I have a sudden change in finances, we are here to stay. I love the warm weather, too. Never want to deal with cold again. And K, bears make great subjects. It's my second bear painting. I like them. I've placed one cub and...

Coming along slowly

Preperation for Irma, then Irma and being without power for two days and now the cleanup, has been slowing this down. Hopefully, I can get to it later in the day. Lots to go. There will be a rocky shore to the right and I've decided to have a couple of cubs with her in the water. The bears' color ga...

Re: Color Harmony

This is beautiful. I'm finding that a limited pallet is useful and even preferred, really, for harmonizing color. I'm presently using Cadmium red, Cadmium yellow medium, and Ultramarine blue. Naturally, Titanium White, also. Oh, Burnt Umber. I like that for some of my dark areas. I mix my greens and...
