Perseus - Another of the 6

These small paintings are just an attempt to restart the skills. By good stuff I mean I expect to do slightly larger pieces that some times have political and social interest. I am not one to dodge controversy. These paintings, most 8X10 inches are mostly done for fun. The Greek concept of the arts ...

Thanks for the kind words

First I would like to thank everyone for their kind words. You don't know how much it helps to have an opportunity to share ones work both finished and in progress. There was a time when coffee houses and artsy taverns provided a place to mix with other artist and share ideas. Those times are gone. ...

Paintings paint themselves

Most students don't know that the painting (image) controls the artist as much as the artist controls the image.

Experienced painters refer to it as the cosmic flow. It's like going for a ride and one has to hold on and try to steer. It's all about learning. Trial and error.

Other's work

I have a real problem criticizing other's work, you never know where the other person is going. The secret is keep trying and work it until it looks right to you. If you want to be more anatomically correct you have to study. there is a structure that supports the face and the eyes. Learn by drawing...

Image study

There was a study done many years ago about subliminal images in ice cubes used in alcohol advertising. Dozens of published promo images had sculls and monsters in the ice. It may be mental or the images may be real. Subliminal images are all over the place. "You can observe a lot by looking.&q...

One of The drawings

Study for one figure in Triumph of Bacchus. Possibly over 100 figures and animals. Being retired is fun.

Manic Phase

I had to drop off for a couple of weeks and work. I needed to create 3 small paintings for a show. I did 6 plus 4 new drawings. I must be nuts. The "Dancing Satyrs" was the last of the series. Western culture is deeply rooted in Greek and Roman mythology and by revisiting the ancient stori...

More going on than anatomy

Looks like you are having fun. Probably a good likeness in spirit.

Forget the anatomical accuracy. Make the shapes work together and keep looking at the painting as a whole.

Still on the easel “Let Their Innocence Protect Themâ€

Still on the easel… This is my first time sharing. One of my interests is mythic illustration. This is sort of a throw back to earlier styles.
