Artists Who Don’t “Make” Their Own Work

made a visit to the Tate Modern in London this morning(on lunch now). i'm not sure what i had for breakfast this morning as i usually avoid this gallery like the plague(my coffee must have been spiked). in the tate modern it's full of contemporary work and usually a gallery that you have to pay to e...

Re: Newly joined but not convinced....

hi Pollen, i have been on here for a short period and kinda like it so far. i myself work in the more traditional style too and maybe the occasional digital piece here and there. i think the more you get involved on the site, the more chance your work will be viewed and get responses. give it a try,...

Re: Is watercolor best for a newbie?

i must have jumped in at the deep end then as i started with watercolours at school before moving onto acrylic paint. i think the reason being was that watercolour blocks were cheaper than acrylic paint at school, was not allowed to use acrylic until the age of 15 at school or at least to a level wh...

Re: Man, I'm telling Ya

sounds interesting to me. the only thing my dentist does is say hello, talk some crazy dentistry code to her assistant, tell me off for my tea/coffee/alcohol intake, then say see you in 6 months. she should talk to me about art, i wouldn't mind trading some art for dental work, could do with my teet...

Re: Understanding the Beauty of Digital Art

i've seen some amazing digital artwork too, natalie shau is up there as my favourite and i have also seen one of her exhibitions in London. i've done a little bit of digital art and have not really warmed to it as much as i wanted to mostly because it's too complex. sometimes i like to use digital a...

Re: A couple of my oils and watercolours :)

i can't really see too much wrong with either of these paintings but saying that I'm not really an absolute expert on this style of painting. I'll give it a go though. if these were done from photographs then it would be easier if those were posted up so i can make a better judgement. the bottom pai...

Re: Alla prima or Pre-Planning?

Alla prima for me. why? because i don't like to see a white canvas within 2 or 3 minutes of starting. monochrome first with burnt sienna then colour. I work a lot faster with a rag and a paintbrush than i do with a pencil. by the time some has pre planned their work with a pencil i would have got a ...

Re: Am I Wrong? Style crisis

i think it's important for an artist to add their own twist, so you can study the way she works and then look at ways to add your own style to it. when the work is done people can see you're heavily influenced by Alexa but they can also identify you as well. i've just looked at her work and it remin...

Re: nEW dIGITAL pAINTING

can you explain what poser does? the pose looks a bit unnatural but can't really tell because the feathers are the same color as her skin and they're blending together. maybe tone the shadow down a bit or soften some of the edges on the curtain, looks quite strong.

Re: lighthouse seascape

hmm, well on the painting it doesn't look tilted to me. maybe the painting was not completely straight on the wall or the camera slipped a bit? i wanted the lighthouse to be the focal point so it has extra layers of white to make it bright and pop, same used on the foamy areas of the sea. PS the lig...

Re: Reptilian Rain

that is a lot of detail, those lines are so intricate, which i love. do you do work on scratchboards too? it reminds me of that type of medium.
