Re: Benjamin and Sam Portrait

Nice picture, but I have a problem with the hand. Looks like he has nails on the wrong side of his fingers.

Hi Michael. I taught art in the public school (middle school age) for 11 years. As far as having my own kids, and being with the students, been there, done that. Maybe consider adults one day.

Thanks for the good words. John you are funny. I only use acrylic paint. I have never tried oils. Always having to be on the go, I don't have the patience to wait for anything to dry. Once I start a painting, there is no stopping me. I also tend to use a ush like a pencil at times, so I can't imagin...

I have been taking everyones advice into much consideration, and have toned down the lines, and worked on the shadowing. It's great having ten eyes. Sometimes the original two get tired. Thanks all, it's looking better. SER

I will work on the shadow under the chin, thanks. As far as being depressed with the lipstick and waiting for a visit, which she was, I hope I still have someone that wants to visit me at that point and who I want to put make-up on for. It's hard to watch your looks go. I get a daily reminder of tha...

I don't think it's the pink under her eyes that bothers me, it is more your question. I don't know what I am trying to say with this one, maybe that is the trouble I am having. What disturbs you about it and what kind of emotion do you feel?

You are right DL. It does appear that way now that you have ought it to my attention. Fortunately, it is just my expert camera skills that created it. I took it crooked and then cropped it that way. Even the horizontal line is off. Good eye. Thanks, SER. I wish Bob would have helped me take the pict...

What is your painting worth?

Since I am new, I don't know if this was discussed. I want to know how people decide what to sell there work for. This is probably the single most difficult thing I deal with. Does how much time you spend on it come into play? I am a semi perfectionist and can spend forever fixing things. I know art...

Before I reply on your color comment Michael, I have to sit on it awhile. It's funny, after I read it I looked at my work, and yes, most of my portraits do use cool colors. Many of the photos I have used as references were black/white, so it was a conscious choice. Such a little comment has provoked...

Nice of you to say Erika. Last month I did have him in a pretty large outdoor art show and won first place for him. I really need to step it up though. I am one of those artists that just stays home and paints. I am in my own little world, and really have no idea how to promote myself, or get my wor...

That made me laugh when I read both of your comments about the toilet. He was actually sitting on a stool. I kept the sink in because I felt they belonged together, both
oken down and beaten up. Thanks for the good words. SER

Thanks for the compliments and advice. Not only do I try to capture an "emotional moment" in my work, but I want the viewer to look at the piece and wonder what is on the mind of the person I have painted. What is it they feel? What are they thinking about? SER
