Re: Hawaiian Sunset

When I painted this I painted the clouds like they looked in the sky. One reason why I was excited to paint it was because I had never seen clouds form like that. I appreciate the comments but I'm very pleased with how they turned out. I took a picture of the clouds while I was there. I'll share tha...

Re: Sky

To me the sun just stands out as cartoonish? Not sure how to describe it, but look at a lot of sunsets and usually the sun itself is a white with the glow around it being that beautiful orange, yellow, red, pink, etc. Now don't get me wrong there are great painters that used an orange sun (Monet com...

Woman Laying

The light quality of the picture of the painting isn't great, so I will be taking a new picture of it...

This is a painting I did during a life studio marathon a while back and just got it back from the show it was accepted into. Just wanted to share it with everyone and see what you thought.

Hawaiian Sunset

Not quite done yet because I am not happy with the small waves on the bottom of the piece. This is my first attempt at a "Monet" style piece with small brush strokes throughout the entire piece. I really enjoyed working on it though, and I learned a lot. Going to apply what I learned in fu...

Hawaiian Sunset - Oil

This is after one two hour sitting. This is the first time I'm doing a painting trying to make short brush strokes similar to the style Monet used. I think I have a lot of colors in the water, so I'm going to dumb down some of it to make some areas look more calm. Still some work to do after it drie...

Re: Boil Linseed Oil

John, that depends on what you are using it for. By boiling the linseed oil, some of the chemicals will dilute and either be lighter or disappear. So, you will get a slightly different look. I have found it to be a little more transparent, but that's me. I personally make my own mix of several mediu...

Home Studio Ideas

OK, so I move into my new house tomorrow. The basement is unfinished, and for the time being (until I get the money to finish it), I will be using the basement as my art studio. I want to have some space for at least two still lifes, a space for life drawing/painting, and space for materials and han...

Re: trees & water

I like the piece... there are only a couple things I would recommend. Now, keep in mind that impressionism is my favorite style. The one thing that stands out to me is that the water has no reflections. I would work on this a little bit. I think you could bring in some broken color into the water to...

Re: 3 Paintings for Small Works Show and Abstract Show

OK E here we are the final results... the paint is a little wet and it is dark outside so don't mind the angles. I took the picture with a little less direct light so you could see the color contrasts better. To answer some of your questions though..... 1. The top of the lower wave I made to try and...

Re: 3 Paintings for Small Works Show and Abstract Show

I agree I think adding some more very small dots would make it pop a little more... The show submissions need to be in by Monday at midnight. I have to teach all day tomorrow, so I will have Sunday afternoon and Monday morning to finish them.

Re: 3 Paintings for Small Works Show and Abstract Show

Sure thing... they aren't the best quality since it is dark outside and had to use artificial lighting. I apparently have to do one at a time so here we go......

3 Paintings for Small Works Show and Abstract Show

OK, so I wanted to share a few paintings I am doing for a Small Works Show and I may put them into an Abstract Exhibition as well. They are all meant to have a space theme, but I took them all from my imagination. They are meant to resemble nebulae, star explosions, and other space events. However, ...

Re: "Hand Rooted In God" critique

OK, so I added some more detail to the roots. I've never actually tried to draw water in B&W, and it was surprisingly difficult to do without adding color. So, I tried to blend some variations together to make it look like calm water. I wanted the water calm and also wanted the roots to look mor...

Re: Woman Stretching - Nude - Critique

I definitely agree about the hand... I actually didn't even notice it until the next morning. I think I spent so much energy and effort on the torso with the proper shading and proportions that I forgot about the hand. Could you expand more on the legs vs waist? In this case the model had wide hips ...

Re: "Hand Rooted In God" critique

Thanks for the observation E... I agree that it is "missing" that Godly element. What is not completely coming through in the photograph is that on the bottom right I made little strokes that give a water illusion, so it is like the tree is planted along a riverbank. This is the theme in P...
