I like the painting definitely, has a style and cool aura about it.

If I was to critique it (disclaimer I'm forcing this critique ie trying to find fault)
I would say the background and foreground are not distinct enough and the distance is somewhat lost. I think the biggest reason for this is the skull does not jump out enough it should be the closest thing to you but doesn't read like that to me. In other words, if the skull wasn't there I don't think that would be an issue.

Hey thanks for the input, i know what you mean.
I will look into it, but i was afraid of making the skull stand out to much which was not what i was going for.

Cheers!

Funny how two people looking at the same piece will always have a different opinion. I actually like the the skull does not jump out more than it already does. I like the color and contrast of this work. It creates a mood. I do wish, however, there was more depth in the water. I would like to see more highlights and a more definitive light source.

all the best,
Joe

Love it! Very cool mood in this one. If I had to force any critique it would also be that I to wish for a light source to get a few more highlights.
Maybe just one ray of sunlight that finds its way through the thick trees. Just nitpicking here.

I must say that I really like this painting. Perhaps apply what others have suggested by adding some more light through the tree canopy, and perhaps give the skull some more shape. I see the skull as being a bit flat. It wouldn't take much more work to enhance this great painting. If you choose to keep it the way it is, that's OK. It's your work, you like it, that is all that really matters. Have fun, and enjoy painting.
