Great Egret

Postby rrsum » Sun Dec 18, 2016 5:07 pm

Hi ASC Friends - I have been absent for awhile. Wife and I have had a busy year or so, but as usual, once winter sets in, I find I have more time to relax and paint. We have a great egret that keeps visiting the lake behind our home, and I have been able to get several great reference photos. Here's a 12 x 16 acrylic on canvas from one of his poses. I put him in mating plumage to dress him up some. Hope you like.

I also set up a new website: RICHSUMMERSART

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Love it. Adroit skill with the colors and composition as usual. I think I see a slight difference in you work on this one. It has a darker background, intermediate middle ground and of course the bird in the foreground giving the illusion of more depth. Been studying?

Thanks Carl!....I'm glad you like it! Yes, I am always and constantly studying and trying to learn. I have become a fan of Roger Bransemer (http://www.bansemer.com/). If you're not familiar with him, he has a show on PBS called "Painting and Travel With Roger and Sarah Bransemer".

He teaches great technique and has helped me "loosen" up in my work. If you've not seen his show I would recommend checking him out. We can all learn something from everyone, can we not?

Hope you are well! Merry Christmas!

Agree with Carl. I definitely notice a difference in your work also. I like it before, but love it now. Much more contrast, depth and fine detail. I love this painting. Great job, Rich.
