PLEASE HELP! I'm ignorant and afraid.

Postby MariahParris » Tue Dec 15, 2015 2:48 am

Hey, you guys. I just recently opened a webpage/store/blog. This is my first step out into the world trying to make money from my art as a living.
I need anyone and everyone to take a lookiloo at my website and tell me what they like, what they don't like, and what they would like to see changed.

Any advice is desired. Thank you very much! =^^=

Hi, Mariah; I'm sure you're not too ignorant to post some of your artwork on ASC.
Please do, we'd love to see it. Thank You, E

Haha! Thanks for reminding me. I had joined a contest, but didn't even think about uploading some paintings onto my personal gallery. Thanks for the reminder.

Nice work Mariah. Your web site is outstanding. May I ask, who is the company you are with for this web page?

Thank you very much! I'm slowly starting to exit the grey area of "What do people wish I had accessable on my site." It's a struggle that's starting to simmer out. This company is Wix.com. They have templates you can choose from and easy "point and click" customization options. (Which is great for me since I recently took up daily painting for practice.) Wix is great for people who don't speak in code and are technologically impared. (Which I am.) If you know computer languages. And would like to have control from scratch, then Arvixe might be a better choice for you. I had used that for a while, but I quickly became frustrated and gave up the ghost.

Thank you so much for mentioning professionalism. That was the most important aspect for me. I wanted customers/viewers to feel a sense of assurance while looking at my art and through my shop.

There are a couple things i think needs changed and they are

Problem #1: Your homepage Image Carousel cycles a bit fast.
Solution #1: Slow it down just a tad.

Problem #2: Potential buyers will have a hard time trying to buy your work.
Solution #2: Make it easier for your future art buyer to purchase your work with a Buy Now link.

Problem #3: there is a lack of social networking widgets like Pinterest, Stumbleupon and Twitter to name a few.
Solution #3: Those widgets do work so include those widgets!

Do you offer prints? Prints can be a good way to make extra cash from your work.

Hi again. I agree with FineArtMarc. Also, I have found that fineartamerica.com is easy to join and learn how to upload your pictures. But, most importantly, it prints the most accurate copy of your work that I have found. It is also cheaper that local print shops, and that includes the shipping costs to you.

Thank you so much for all of your input! It was amazingly helpful.
I changed things around a bit. To where that rotating carousel is now a rotating "store".

Ok, now for the social links.
Should I add buttons people can push to "Share" my works and stuff? Or are they buttons to go to my social networks accounts.

I have a facebook button at the top of each page for my facebook. And I have a set of social network SHARING buttons in my store when you click on a product. Do you think I need more?

A part of me is a little scared to allow people to share too much. XD

And yes! I have prints. Definitely something I need to invest more in.

Thank you, Carl! I forgot that I actually started an account there a long long time ago. I'll have to re-learn how to use everything/change the product options. (Which is kicking my butt right now for some reason.) But I'm sure after one good stout day of fiddling will get me right as rain.

But BOTH OF Y'ALL!
Check out the changes, and see what y'all think.

Thank you guys so much. I really really appreciate it.

Im new here, and this is my first post.
Nice website overall, two small critical points as follows.
The section announcing your thesis was a little bit too large for my personal taste, and you have "availability 20" for several items.
Availability - 19, 14, 17 etc might be better for marketing. People buy when they see other people are buying.

Otherwise its good.
