Well then, what is the next theme for our drawing group? Are there going to be more hats?

I love your little characters. They are great. As far as the hats go, maybe add a bit of contrast to them with some darker shades. This will add depth and make them come to life.

all the best,
Joe

Sure is. But be careful not to go too dark. Also, make sure you shade with more variation in pencil. Start from 4h as your light value and go as dark as a 2b or something close, as opposed to using one or two pencils.

Because hats are round, the should change in tone from one side to the other. If the light source is in front, it should be lighter in the middle and get darker on the sides. If the light source is on the side, it should gradually get darker to the opposite side. Make sure your shading reflects that.

all the best,
Joe

Halloween's over, but here's a sketch of a witch. I'm not sure I got the face right, but I've always had trouble drawing people...scanned image is not that good...oh well... :?
