Lady Slipper Orchid - Paphiopedilum in colored pencil

Postby RichardDevine » Tue Apr 08, 2014 8:39 am

I just completed this latest Botanical painting in colored pencil of a Paphiopedilum, a Lady Slipper Orchid. This particular plant from which the painting was made grew on the grounds of the north Florida Estate I managed for many years. I also have a few growing along a walk in my Garden - also in north Florida. They seem to very well in rich garden soil as long as they are protected from severe freezes in winter. I welcome comments and observations on this painting. Thanks. Richard Devine

More, more! Beautifully drawn and colored - nothing like Orchids and you did them proud. Thank You, E

Excellently executed... orchids are my fav... and you did them justice indeed...
did you use standard color pencil (wax base) or did you use watercolor pencils? just curious, I often use both, and for different reasons.. :)
May your world be painted in the Brightest of colors!

I used a combination of Prismacolor and Faber Castell pencils. Sometimes I use watercolor pencils but each time I pick them up and start using them I say to myself "Why don't you just do watercolor paint?" and that sort of stops me. I have used them on occasion but not on the orchids.
