Just drew this for fun

Postby the-magnetic-cat » Fri Jul 25, 2014 10:54 am

This is a 30 x 40 cm drawing of some.. person from internet haha. I used a photo reference and I'm not so good with drawing people so yeah some practice is needed. Graphite pencils on paper. Oh and also it doesn't look that dark in real life because the graphite is kind of dull (which is sad). But I totally can't control charcoal yet..

I must say, not the typical drawing I am drawn to when looking at portraits. i tend to like super realism. But this is awesome. I absolutely love it. I would like to see a bit more variation in tone to increase contrast. Other than that, it's great.

I too really like this illustration... its clean, and yet stylized.
You did a great job capturing emotion and character... Nice work.
As for working with graphites.. get different hardnesses of leads... they run from the Bseries (soft) to H series (Hard)..
with HB In the middle (closer to the familiar No.#2 we used in schools)... anyway.. the higher the number.. the higher the intensity of what the pencil produces... (i.e., a 6B is much darker than a 2B / and thus a 4H is harder, and lighter than a HB or 2H)
Hope that helps.

Yes and yes! Your interesting style mitigates your struggle with charcoal - agree with Singular, I think a little more darkness here and there would make everything else pop. Thank You, E

I love the style! It's very very unique. This is just the way I see it but it's a mixture between a bit of realism and comic work. Did I mention I really love the style? I like what you've achieved and would love to see a few more pics. rendered in this fashion. Great work
