Portrait painting of my cousin

Postby DianaClairePajoAbucayan » Tue Jan 15, 2013 9:39 pm

This is another portrait painting of mine. I welcome comments and suggestions to enhance it. The title of this painting is Sheena, and the medium I used was oil paint not on canvas but on a thick paper. I was not able to buy canvas, and I got bored, that's why I went on to painting my cousin's picture. :D

I commend your courage in posting the photo
right next to your painted subject!
You have captured the essence of your cousin and that's a great start!
Portrait painting is quite difficult in general though, because
while mostly 'getting' an eye, nose or mouth shape, you can
come very, very close but still be a bit 'off'.
In this instance, her nostrils in the photo are wider and the mouth
expression different. Also, her eyebrows are in a bit of a different position.
Finally, if you wish to emulate this photo completely, see if you can
work some shading into the appropriate spots.
Again, I very much appreciate the posting of her photo for comparison.
This shows me that you really want to 'go for the gold' and get it 'just right'!
