Ok, I decided to take the plunge and try a human portrait instead of my usual canine!
I chose to try my grandkids, Patrick and Royal -age 8 and 4 respectively.
I'm working in pastel on ampersand bord. the size is 16 x 20.
I haven't even sketched in Royal yet, and have cropped this portion of the surface for viewing. Royal will be added in same type pose to the viewer's right of Patrick. I've had a time with skin tones in pastel...still working on everything but thought I would show progress so far.

This looks to me like it's going to be a very impressive work.
Perfection is what drives an artist.
The inability to achieve perfection is what creates a work of art.

Thanks for your encouragement as well Erika! I'm planning on giving this piece, if it turns out, to my son and daughter in law as a combined BD gift at the end of the month. I just hope I can sqeeze out enough time in my now hectic days to work on it and finish in time. :?

Thanks for stopping by Linda, always a pleasure to hear from you!

About done with Patrick....took this photo in nightlight, so some of the reds are washed out.
I redid his (viewer's) left hand, as i had his cheek too pudgy! Like it better now.
Now on to Royal....people are fun, but in Pastels I know there must be a better way to achieve skin tones...probably need a larger color palette than what i have available, but oh well.
