Hi I'm Sophia, and I'm an Artist

Postby Badgersoph » Sat Jan 03, 2009 11:06 pm

Greetings!

As there is no 12-step program for artists, I'll just dive in. I've been working professionally for 26 years, primarily as a portraitist, working in pastel and colored pencil. However, these have never been your run-of-the-mill portraits: in this time, I've drawn Dragonriders, Klingons, Dungeons and Dragons characters, Star Fleet officers, Egyptian priestesses and, most recently, World of Warcraft characters.

About six years ago, my mother, who takes art classes at the senior center near her home, came home with a set of gouache. I looked at what she was doing and said, "Hmmm! I wonder what I could do with those?"

My sister Hollie had asked me to draw a Green Man, a figure from Celtic mythology. Suddenly he wanted to become a painting. When the painting was finished, I thought about making greeting cards and fine art prints. I really haven't looked back since then. My portfolio contains pieces in gouache, colored pencil, pastel, pen and ink, Derwent Inktense pencil, and now the oxymoronic water soluble oil paints. Although my subjects are usually mythical, I also specialize in paintings of agates and minerals.

I'm published, and have started having gallery showings, all of them more or less local to Pottsville PA. We have a very nice gallery here, and we have one of the most gifted framing designers I have ever met. We must all be here, in what was once the bastion of coal barons, by some cosmic confluence...there's no other obvious reason for creative people to be here.

Now that the holidays are over I will be getting back to my portraits (which in this economy remain my
ead and butter) and commissioned paintings. I hope to talk to lots of people here!

Badgersoph, welcome to ASC! I wanted to check out your Green Man, as I love Celtic mythology, but you haven't loaded up much into your gallery yet. Hope to see more soon, Erika

I tried to post some things last night but they wouldn't go, no matter how small I made them. I will try again tonight. :)

hi Sophia Welcome to a
illiant site with great people. i live the piece you have displayed already and look forward to seeing more

De

you need a resizer programme for your pics, i use Jpegsizer, it changes the megs to kb and changes the size to anything

600x600 is usually best at 600kb,

http://jpegsizer.tangotools.com/

Its only the trail version but works a treat

Yes you have Gods for modern times on your images on your profile. If its not yours then delete it and talk to Joe about it.

If you click on your control panel (up at the top near LOGOUT)and you will get a list menu at the side upload your pics one at a time and label etc. also in this message area before you submit there is a section to attach a pic but has to be smaller than 200kb. Don't forget to uplaod to the sections in the main galleries of items you want to submit. Stick with it, there are great people in here so please don't be put off

Hope to see your work soon
De :D :D
