The Way to Paradise

Postby Gosia » Sat Sep 06, 2014 3:18 am

I am starting something new. I was inspired by the book The Way to Paradise (by Mario Vargas Llosa) about life of Paul Gauguin, especailly by the fragment about short moment of happiness in life of Paul Gauguin when he was staying in Tahiti far away from civilization together with his Tahitian lover. His life was full of passion, creativity, contact with beautiful nature at this time. I don't want to make this drawing necessary about Paul Gauguin (probably he wouldn't be happy about it :-D ), but just about short, utopian moment of happiness and passion that cannot last for a long time. I want to make colors at least a little bit like on Paul Gauguin's paintings from Tahiti. :-)

Good! Don't get too heavy with the beard hair and her lipstick, OK? There's a potential for messiness..E

A little bit of progress - I made initial plan for colors, but still lots of work on details and shading is left. :-)

Your colors are good and hot - I love the tri-colored mountain. If you possibly can, lighten some leaves of your palm tree - the value is the same as the blue mountain making it hard to see. Lovely picture! Thank You, E

I worked a little bit more on this one: I made lighter palm leaves and some other small change. :-) Thank you Elizabeth for advice!

Jenn, thank you so much! I am surprised that my drawing was reminded after long time. :-)
James, thank you for mentioning the painting Manao Tupapau - this painting illustrates so well woman's immense fear.
My favorite woman character from this book was Tehamana, Paul's first sweetheart - he loved her the most. I like a lot also painting showing Tehamana's fear of Manao Tupapau (or other ghost - I am not sure): http://www.wikiart.org/en/paul-gauguin/alone-1893

Hello Gosia.
I like your colors, they are strong and full of light. I looked at your gallery artworks ... 'oh to be young and full of love'.
Keep up the good work.
