Custom Foomi

Postby rhknigh » Sun Mar 31, 2013 10:46 am

So this is the start of the Foomi Custom. I had an idea that I had been thinking about for a couple of weeks. The problem is my hands didn't seem to agree with it and they decided to do this. Not sure where it is going....maybe a fish like man thing .....we shall see.

In the last 18 days - the longest Tanya has ever worked on a figurine (because it had no clear "plan" she says) and it has gone from that to this

And she has already designed her next creature! This one had a practice item on it - tentacles. Yes, more of that to come.

The fishy-head on the foomi form is coming along. This is her first project with super sculpy clay. It is not as sticky as regular polymer. It also is a beige color, not sure why but it will be painted by the end

I took a quick snap of this on my way out this morning. Foomi now has a fin. Tanya is thinking that this figure will be armless.

Foomi current status. Details added, fins redesigned. Tanya took time out from clay work to sketch. Most of that happened on break at her "day job". Drawing when complete will be shown in ASC gallery.

This little creation looks like a sad fish. I also think it has a duck likeness too.

Foomi Fish will be fabulous - I'm liking the detail on it's side fin.

Patchwork clay scales and the start of fins on the back of the body. This is going to be a mix of different types of fish. Tanya is also considering using a tentacle or two. This is a deviation from her steampunk or art deco style work.

Good question Jenn, it is smooth white vinyl that is safe to bake for polymer clays that really don't go over 350F. This is a 4in "mini" FOOMI, one of the newest DIY stars of MUNNYWORLD. Smallest size is the "micro" at 2.5in and goes up to 18in if you have $250 you are willing to invest in a Munny figure.

Here is official site listing of the exact model form Tanya started out with: http://www.kidrobot.com/ShopAll/Designe ... ition.html

Hope I have answered your question and more - Rebecca

The tips got a bit singed on the head while it was in the oven. This was probably because I didn't let the oven cool enough after roasting garlic. Note: the body has not been baked yet because I am still working on it. I am currently calling it "Pouty Foomi Sea Creature"

Thanks again Nigel, you are very encouraging and positive :D

I have created an article inspired by the interest shown in the DIY forums for the 2 Munny projects we have posted here. Its an informative intro to MunnyWorld.

Check it out when you get a minute : In MunnyWorld you can do anything you want!

Here is foomi now, body scales and tentacles and tail all happening. What a cute monster he is. I keep saying he looks like a fish/bird mash-up. Guess that would make it a cousin to a reptile or a platypus?
