Triptych - still life and 'stained glass'

Postby Menolly » Sun Apr 10, 2011 3:38 pm

If the wings are my most ambitious project this semester in terms of scale, then this is my most ambitious in terms of time/labor... it's a combination of acrylic and oil (acrylic underpainting). I resurrected a technically-unfinished project from intermediate painting; the side panels were done, but the central panel was blank, so the still life is completely new this semester.
Note: the bottom picture is an earlier phase of the still life; the top pictures are the newer ones.
Also, the white border around the center piece will be painted black to match the side panels... I just don't want to paint the border if I'm likely to drip or smudge paint on it between now and finals...

The most recent pic of the still-life portion... don't worry, the candles and other 'flat' parts will have definition added. The ferns and the flowers are the only parts I have any real depth built in at this point.

Nice work! I asume that it is still in progress (the blue flower?)

I like your use of color and the black sets it of very nice!

Keep going!
Well, why are we here if not to create?

Thanks! Yes, still very much in progress. There are still major developments in the works for just about everything except the purple flowers and the background, haha. I'll have some more photos to show later this week.

Very pretty, pure colors. Love the "wings". Hope you have it done in time for the holidays...

Latest update... picture quality is a little screwy; I was taking these pics in a bit of a hurry and didn't realize there were some reflections/blurs going on. I tried to compensate with some photo editing, but they're still a little off. Up against the previous pics, you should be able to see the differences... though the side panels might not look like much has changed because a couple of the colors are off...

Well, I finally get the pictures to come out right (it helps to wipe off the lens... head smack)... and then I lose my camera... so my most recent photos are from my iPod camera, which isn't the highest quality, so the picture's a little grainy and, most frustratingly, almost all the detail work in the candle flames and bottom corners is washed out. <sigh>. Now that my final critique is done, I have finished shots of all my work, and man did I power a lot of work into a few days on this one...

I'll post this in Fury when I get a proper picture... I just don't feel right posting this to be critiqued when there's so much detail missing...
