Acrylic Painting of Ruby

Postby BYart » Sat Mar 21, 2009 7:41 pm

This is my newest painting in progress.
My dearest friend lives in the UK, with her husband and twin boys and her loving two dogs, Duke and Ruby.
Ruby is a bull mastiff that they recently acquired from the same rescue they adopted Duke from. According to my friend, Ruby is sweet, loving, yet full of mischief!
I'm doing this painting(and will also do one of Duke) for her Birthday, coming up VERY soon. I'm trying to finish this and then go on to Duke's, but I fear she won't have them on her BD(on the first).
Still have alot to do, but thought I would show my progress so far-
Acrylic on canvas, 16 x 20.
Thanks for viewing!

Thanks K.
I just lost Rally on Feb. 6th. I've missed talking with you Krysta, been a long time.
Remember the painting I had started which envisioned me and all my dogs back in my favorite place? I couldn't figure out why I was unable to paint Rally in a spot in front or beside me, as I did with the others. No matter how hard I tried, it never looked right....now I know why I could only paint him "behind me".
Thanks for your comments on my painting, I hope my friend does like it.

Did a bit more detail, will do the mouth today and finish with the rest of detail.
I tend to switch from one thing to another when doing a painting...not like I've seen others here paint. Guess I'm weird!
I don't do all the underpainting first(as seen in the mouth)...I work on one thing at a time, to it's almost completion, lacking final detail.

I love watching these come to life. You are great at pet portraits (among other things). Great work, great layering.....

Barb, this is very nice! I had a mastiff for a while. She was a big ol' gentle gal. This reminds me of her a lot.

Nice job!

Krysta, Shannon and Rich,
Thak you all so much for your nice comments on this painting.
I am slowly getting back to where I am comfortable painting again, it's been a long time since I've done a piece that I am very happy with, and it's nice to have it appreciated! Thank YOU!

WP,
Thank you!
I gave her a peek via emailed photo and she is ecstatic!
I'm working on her other dog's(Duke) portrait, but the photo I have is a bit unclear, so I'm taking painstaking time trying to get his proportions right.
Everyone,
Thanks for all the nice comments, encouragement, and nice notes!
It's great to be back here! I've missed you all!
