Work on fallen angel #3 (male this time)

Postby KarinPavlic » Thu Jan 24, 2008 5:46 pm

I guess I'm in the 'week of angels' mood...

Well the previous angel was simbolicaly sold to my man (lol) and since he plans to hang it in our bedroom I only find it fair that I have an angel of my own beside it.

So, this shall be male fallen angel. With female I used the yellow ochre and gave her more round wings.
With this male I will use raw sienna for base color and his wings shall be less curved, more sharp looking.

I made the basic outline from wich I will build.

Oh yea, and its oils on 45x60 cm medium grain streched canvas.

FALLEN ANGEL

Postby SPARTAN » Fri Jan 25, 2008 2:20 pm

I LIKE THE THEME AND I LIKE THE SETTING. THE FIGURE IS WELL DRAWN,BUT ,AND IT'S ONLY MY OPINION, THE WINGS DON'T SEEM RIGHT. I THINK IT'S THE SHAPE OF WINGS THAT ARE SLIGHTLY OFF.
NOT THAT I'M AN EXPERT ON ANGELS, AS I SAY IT'S ONLY MY OPINION.I THINK IT WOULD LOOK FAR BETTER IF WINGS WERE THE SAME SHAPE AS THE FEMALE VERSION.
SHOULD LOOK NICE ONCE IT'S FINISHED.

GOOD LUCK SPARTAN

Hi there SPARTAN! Thank you for droping by and sharing your thoughts. :)
I made a quick outline sketch of the body and added rounded wings. After comparing the sketch with painting I came to the conclusion that you were right on that. Thank you! :)

So I changed the shape of wings as sugested by SPARTAN and done some work on the body and sky. I'm still using only white, black and raw sienna only and it shall stay like that.

So atm it looks like this:

. I believe u mistaken the light reflecting from painting for the light shining down. ;)

But u know, u gave me an idea there and I think that I will try to paint over that light so that it shall realy be there when the painting drys up a bit. :)

For future reference, if you light the painting from the side at a 45-degree angle that should get rid of any glare like that.

...Though I agree that the light shining down would definitely look pretty, I'm not sure it goes with the whole fallen-angel theme. Unless the angel fell and is now receiving forgiveness from Above? Otherwise it's confusing.

angel

Karin, this is a good painting of a fallen angel. Are you familiar with the Dore bible? There are some excellent images of rebel and falling angels from Milton's "Paradise Lost"
