Still-life that I'm working on

Postby KarinPavlic » Fri Jan 18, 2008 9:21 am

It has been ages when I did last still-life. I believe it was back at school by the supervision of Jìri Kocica, who was also one of the best and kindest teachers I ever had in highscool.
Anyhow, I decided that its time to do one more and so I started.

It shall be oil on 15.7x15.7" (40x40 cm) medium grain streched canvas.

I don't have 'objects' on the table so I'm doing it 'out of my head' style.

Made the 'underpainting' without prior sketching (I almost never sketch oO) and now I'm moving to the detailing the fruits.

Any feedback you can give me would be very much apreciated and helpful. Thank you.

Painting

It is interesting to see the stages of your work Karin. I like the bold colors you use. I must ask, is that a scorpion in the first frame?

Thank you very much, Carmelo.
You are right, the
own spot on first image is 'reserved' for a scorpio. =)

Shaded the candles and done some work on the jar and plate. They are not completly finished yet tho. After that I'm moving to the scorpio and I will have to think something for the background even if it shall be mainly black.

i like the scorpion. He is a cool little bugger and makes you turn your head and say, "Hey is that a scorpion nect to that yummy bowl of fruit?"

Haha, thank you saphyre.

I thought that scorpio could add a nice 'touch' to it. :D

Good job on the whole thing except the scorpion. I think
it's a humorous touch but he (or she) doesn't look right in that
particular spot. Kind of hanging off the pic if you know what I mean. E

I had an idea while looking at your piece again. Everything looks like it is floating, there is no definite plan that the bowl, candles and scorpio are sitting on. I really do like the way you've done the scorpio, maybe do another with the scorpio and do some research on the flower, color and other symbols of the scorpio zodiac or any other zodiac. I think that would be right up your alley with the kind of art you have doing. ^.^ :D Keep it up!

Thank you, saphyre. Yes, I have to agree on that. It does look floaty. :D I actualy didnt planned the 'table' etc. and was actualy just focused on fruits.
Next time when I'll do still-life I will also include the surface to put it on. Thanx again! :)
