Fantasy/Alien face sculpt.

Postby www-ksart-se » Fri Dec 09, 2016 8:06 am

Hello there!

So i been working on this one for a while. Slow progress. Not sure where I wanna go whit it.
I'm thinking about a lizard skin texture. But for now I'm just trying to nail down the main facial features.

I started with a sheap clay.

And then cover it with super sculpey because thats what im used to work whit.

I know I wanna make the eyes lager. But apart from that, still have alot to figure out.

Cheers!

Nice work of course. It does sort of remind me of the humanoid creatures on Earth 2 in that cancelled TV show.

Thanks. I have to look that up. Just thought that I may wanna do some type of head gear for him.
[EDIT]
That would allow me tell a bit about how civilized he is. And where he is from. But i don't know. Maybe I wanna leave that for the viewer to figure ut.

Always love your work Kristian. There is such a "human" quality about it.

Thank you Carl.
Here is a small update on the progress. Been so busy lately.
Hope that things easy up a bit so I can get this sculpture moving. =)

It reminds me a bit of a cartoon show I used to watch as a child. Called Dino Riders, there was a "good" human faction and the "evil" faction was humanoid mutants with reptile heads.

Coming along nicely Kristian. Your craftsmanship is simply superb. In my mind's eye I see snake eyes that just scares the you know what out of me. And, I see human eyes that shakes me to my core. Can't wait to see what you come up with.

thank you rrsum.

I believe I waited too long to finish this sculpt. The clay dried and got unworkable, cracking and crumbling. My bad! :-/
So I figured the only way to "save" it was to make a hoodie out of fresh clay. Not what I originally planned but figured it was worth a try.

After baking it the cracking got worse. And I had to glue it all over.
And now I am facing a new problem. How do I go about whit the painting of this sculp whit the hoodie on? That is if it doesn't crumble to pieces..

Maybe I just cut my losses and move on.

Sometimes my friend, sometimes. We all have a scrap rate. Although the hoodie is extremely well done. It adds a level of movement, life if you will, that the figure did not have before. You might try spraying it with acrylic clear sealer, like a varnish, and then paint over that. Of course the inside will be difficult and I suggest to take your time with a small flat brush size 0 to 1. I have found that sable hair works really great. Good luck with you decision.

Thank you Carl for your input and advice. The cracks keep getting larger and larger even those I glued.
So the decision was easy. Not fun tho.. Maybe the materials I used didn't go well together.

Moving on! =)

Understood. Live, learn, experiment, learn, experience, and somehow it all is worth it in the end. I kind of liked the guy. To bad. If you think about doing it again, just know you are not alone. I once did a portrait of a friend five times before I was satisfied. Of course the first four no long exist. She framed it and has had it now for nine years hanging in her home where everyone can see it. Nice.

That is terrific! Like it a lot. Don't tell me that's going to get trashed. What exactly happened? Is all of that beautiful work on the top of the head gone?
