Mystic Harbor

My mother used to oil paint. She passed away almost a year ago at the age of 79. She had started several paintings before she died. Holding my hand, she asked me to finish them for her.

This is one from a photo taken in 1968 of the seaport at Mystic, Ct. The original photo appeared in Life magazine. The composition of the painting is hers and is based on that photo. She had the underpainting done when she passed.

I added the shadows, details, reflection, ship and pylon in the foreground.

18 x 24 oil on canvas.

Hope you like.

Rrsum , You did a very nice job completing your mother’s painting. You were so fortunate to have a parent who was involved in the arts especially someone who was a great painter. Is this a limited edition reproduction of the work as there seems to be title “Mystic Harbor” in the bottom center of the visual?
I would love to see some of your original art work.

Thank you Al. It's not a limited print. I took a hi-res photo of the painting, then fixed it up in Paint Shop Pro to look like a print for some of my family members.

Glad you liked it. I may post more of my work here as the community gets used to me. :)

Thank you Joe. Posting your work in a new forum can be intimidating, especially when there are so many great artists here.

I'm amazed by some of the stuff I've seen here in just a few days!

Glad you like!

This is beautiful. I love the serenity of the image.... I agree with what was said by bergina, to have such a great parent as a teacher and mentor for your art....

lovely

Rrsum,

Very sorry to hear about your mother passing.

I can see where you get your talent from. Must have been great growing up with a parent who held the same intrest as you, and who could guide and inspire you in your development as an artist.

You did a fantastic job completing this painting, she would be very proud of you.
