ASC Drawing Group - Topic 6: Fruit Still Life

Postby Singular » Mon Dec 17, 2007 10:54 am

Hello all,
Time to get technical. Drawing fruit well takes a lot of skill and practice. It can come in many shapes and sizes, textures and colors. Don't worry about being perfect at first. I want to see a bunch of sketches and then later, refine your final product. Let's get drawing!

Looks like I'm the first....
A bunch of bananas quick sketch. I don't do still-life pictures and I don't think I've EVER drawn fruit before, so this was a little bit of a challenge for me. I've also started a red pear sketch, so we'll see where that one goes. Not too happy so far..... I see a mistake on the stems.
hmm, maybe I'll do a few of these, I could use it. Just don't look for a masterpiece!

great start. Don't worry about perfection yet. Just blast out a bunch of quick sketches. Later in the week, we can pick one for you to refine.

haha, i just put more into the pear, I'm not even going to put it up....it is terrible!!! lol Now I know something I need to work on. No wonder so many artists do fruit, it's harder to do than I thought. Maybe I'll keep practicing some bananas for now. There is so much shape to work on, all throughout one piece of fruit, it's almost irritating. I need to slow myself down on these.

I got excited when I found this Challenge sub-forum. I didn't draw this recently but just had to jump in with my one attempt at fruit. (I wish I had time to do one now!) It's a study of the painting "Peaches" by Henri Fantin-Latour, 1869. Not a very good rendition of his work but they are peaches, don't ya' think?

You got right to the core of the subject A. I am having technical difficulties at this moment, but will be back to posting soon. The bananas and peaches look rather bite-able...yum.
