Let The Games Begin

Postby CarlOwen » Sat Nov 29, 2014 8:14 pm

Elizabeth Taylor portrait started
In the Light and Dark 6 contest on this site, Artist Cristo posted a black and white version of one of his paintings titled "Tori Amos from Scarlet's Walk". We got into a back and forth challenge discussion. We agreed to do a paint off of Elizabeth Taylor to be finished by February 1, 2015. This is my first post of the painting in process. There shall be many more before I decide I am done. Rules of engagement were not established so I am taking advantage of that with this process type of posting. Besides, I get the feeling Cristo prefers to present the final product upon completion. On the other hand I could care less.

You see, he is better than I am and I think I need all the help I can get to present an acceptable portrait. So if anyone wants to chime in, it is just fine with me.

Step 5. I am starting to get tired but can't turn off my mind. Hope I don't blow it in step six.

Step 6 This is it for the day. I am tired and have worn the sun into the ground. Will present the finished drawing tomorrow. Been fun, but good night.

Thank you for your rating Cristo. Intend to do a little tweaking today. I might get to about 92% if I am lucky. Any suggestions about what needs correcting or more work?

Her eyes and her jaw. Her eyes are lighter colored and her jaw looks a little off. Maybe more shading of it would do, although it's also the shape of it. They're minute details but your already at this level! Good luck.

Thanks. Just photoshoped a side by side picture of mine and the internet's pictures. I think I see what you are saying. I also see tweaking needs around the temple area and the forehead. And I am going to rework those baby doll eyes I did. May take a few days, or not.

At this point in time this is far as I can go. It is the limit of my knowledge, skills and ability. In a couple of weeks when my burned out brain cells are replaced by better equipped new troops, who knows? Anyway, thank you Cristo. You are a true artist.

Thank you, Carl, for for taking this on. She looks very good! Your shading is excellent. I'm about 40% done with my drawing of miss Taylor. I'm doing an early picture where she has really shiny short hair so bear with me. Otherwise, you drew her first so you won the battle of time limit

Thank you for your response Cristo. Other than that if you were here in front of me I would give you such an asss chewing you would not be able to sit down for a week. The dead line is Feb 1st, 2015 for the completed painting! Don't you dare start to pay homage at this stage of the game. There was no rule about drawing done first. I am so angry I could cuss and spit at the same time. And, stop apologizing for living. Stop thinking you owe your parents more than you can pay. I see that in your work and in your comments. And please be as arrogant as you were in your first comment to me. Practice it. Why else did you think I responded to your original comment? I see an artist in your sole. You just don't know that you need to claim it. So get tough my young friend. Be the artist you are and make no concessions. Believe me, we all have had tough lives. Read my bio at my website, carlowenpaintings.com to get a feel for what I say. The world does not care if you live or die. You are the one to decide your fate. OK, now moving on. I would love to see your drawing or whatever you must do to make a painting when you are ready to post.
