A Season of Solitude?

Postby Graphixcat » Thu Jun 20, 2013 5:19 pm

I am just finishing up details on my most current painting and would love some feedback, good or bad, (don't worry about hurting my feelings, I went to Cal Poly in SLO majoring in Applied Art & Design-Graphic Design, 4 years of weekly critiques will make you tough).

Yes indeed! When I took Graphic Design I did have some friends
who would routinely tell me my work sucked. Yes, it hurt but I
got used to it and my stuff got better.
Not nearly as good as yours, however! I do think this lovely forest scene
allows us to walk through, feel the sunlight and talk to the Deer. Such
a warm overall glow but because it's Fall, I'll wear a jacket.
Thank You, E

Im a sucker for the colours
Composition is fragmented even random
In the west we read left to right -so that jars a bit
Take a vertical slice and you have two clear pictures
As Ev says warm - and with those colours you can get away with murder-
Another thing dont understatement a psychological barriers- the boulders in the front while ok have not been finesses properly to ease you into the picture – anyway nice job
Anything in any way beautiful derives its beauty from itself and asks nothing beyond itself.
Praise is no part of it, for nothing is made worse or better by praise.
Homer Simpson - [Not] M.Aurelius actually

Nice warm autumn colours indeed however I agree the artwork looks like two pictures in one. Also the perspective seems wrong on the boulders and tree leaves. Is this a digital work?

Fantastic color! I don't think the composition looks too random. I like the way the lighting on the rocks and sky combined with the animal subjects lead your eye around the piece nicely. A friend's criticism is the best way to push yourself forward! Great work.

Thanks so much for your comments Sam. I not only love the critical comments, because like you said, it pushes you on in your growth as an artist. But you know, I also love that positive comments as they give you the encouragement to keep you pushing on. And so again, thanks for viewing my painting and encouraging me.
