First time posting

I have always been hesitant to show my art to anyone but I am trying to get some self-confidence in my painting. I do not think of myself as an "artist" but more of cutsie home decor and whatnot. Going to start selling in a local gallery of amateur artists and crafters but need some feedback before I put myself out there. Please tell me what you think. The pictures aren't very great, I am still trying to figure out how to photograph this stuff properly!

Hi, 'Sugar'! Good for you for starting to put your
colorful paintings out there. My personal fave is the
Flower with Ladybug. No matter what sort of art you do,
you'll find that people's tastes are all over the map -
something out there for everybody!

Just wanna say hi and that i enjoy your colorful paintings!
Did you use a flash when photographing your paintings? Looks like that to me.
You are better of if you use daylight.

If you put a napkin or a piece of white paper over the flash it helps to defuse the light so it's softer. Not a pefect fix but it works. Just a tip.

I like the gecko. Its very fun. Also your first piece is very classic and bright. Very pretty.

In the Daddy piece it looks like you missed some sky in between the girls legs and arms and her arms look a bit out of proportion. But it is a very sweet and heartfelt piece.

Thank you for your comments. I am always so hard on myself I end up painting over my paintings half the time. I was just taking pics of the art to send to my mom so I will have to try and do a better job for future postings. My house has TERRIBLE lighting so I might just have to take it outdoors. I realized the out of proportion on the daddy and girl but I was scard to paint over anything to fix it, that I'd never get it the silhouettes on there at all. I am really struggling with painting what I see, even in something as simple as a silhouette. Thanks again!

I figured that someone would probably say exactly that! I just don't feel confident in my assessments. I have no basis of knowledge for art, I only know what I like and the instructions for critiquing on this forum were pretty clear. What is your advice for critiquing on such an amateur level?

I like your work here. Nice clean lines, good color/contrast and nice design.

And I agree with E. If you comment on other artists' work, they will be more likely to give you feedback in return. Just be honest and offer advice if needed. Say what you like, and in some cases, what you do not like. If you have a suggestion, offer it. Communities work better when we all offer.
