Kuwaiti Tree Dancers

Postby markfineart » Sun Apr 15, 2012 5:28 pm

I recently spent 2 weeks in Kuwait City while my Lady was doing some contract work there. Not much to walk to in the neighbourhood, so I spent a fair bit of time drawing in the hotel room. Came up with these 4 drawings. 14" x 17" pencil on a medium grade Strathmore pad with a yellowish cast to the paper. I'm happy with the contrast IRL - not too sure the scan shows the tonal range as well as I'd like.

I can't think of anything to critique about them. I like them a lot. They are quite lovely.

Thanks so much Sidney Eileen and ehoeveler! No doubt I could have spent a long time filling in the drawing, but I'm glad you are fine with where I chose to stop it :)

I always like the simplicity of
a gray-scale drawing but adding color would be
lovely, also.

I agree. I also had enough people echo you that I took a series of pencil drawings I'd done of Tree Dancers and reworked prints with colour pencil. Not sure if it's cool to put a link to a different site here, but if you are interested in seeing the result . . . http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showth ... p?t=234873 :)

Edited to note - I forgot that my blog in my website has an entry showing the before and after versions. http://www.markfineart.ca/2012/01/tree- ... th-colour/
