"Caught In the Act"

Postby BYart » Fri Feb 17, 2012 2:28 pm

I had posted this in Just Showing, but then I decided to change the title and do a few other changes. Now I think I am finished.
It's an 8 x 10 Pastel painting on ampersandbord.
The subject is an cute little Spinone Italiano breed puppy. Ref. photo contributed by Tracy Davies/Monticani Spinoni. As I hadn't seen this breed in person, I found this one challenging. Thankfully, the breeder of this pup gave me a thumbs up as to correctness of breed type.
I just loved this little guy's expression and had to paint it!
CC's welcomed!

Thank you kindly Joe! Happy you like! I am striving to reach a new level in my work, and I think this one has made a small step in that direction.

I'm doing a huge series of this breed(I am hoping to paint and sketch approx. 15 of this breed), so I am sure by the time I'm done(assuming I finish :P ), you all will be tired of looking at the Spinone Italiano.
I'm starting my second, will post in WIP.
Thanks for viewing!

Fantastic job! To me, it looks like everything a pet portrait should be, detailed, precise, and full of life, especially the eyes. I look forward to seeing the rest of the series.

The only thing I can see that might be improved is the nose, which looks a little flat compared to the rest of the drawing. That's getting very nit-picky, though.
The day we stop learning about art is the day we stop making art.
