I'd think the "good" side would be brighter.
When I squint every thing turns to mush.
Although it looks like black and white, what I really see is light grey and dark grey.
More value contrast would help bring the idea of opposing sides as well as make the piece easier to see.
Then once you've used the darkest darks and lightest lights, it will be a matter of keeping the nice variations you've gotten.
