Postby Sandra Haley » Thu Jun 16, 2011 9:00 pm

Hello friends,
I just finished a portrait of Benjamin a small boy and his dog Sam, alseep on the couch together. It is an oil painting on stretched canvas, a 16 x20. Comments and critques welcome.

Nicely done!
I do think that it may be the image quality, but i think this could benefit from a bit of darkening of the shadowed areas. I just think that aside from the boy's shirt, everything is in the same tonal value, it needs more color and or contrast.
I think you did a great job on the rendering!

Thanks I know it is tonaly the same but the picture was something special to them and it was part of the memory so I couldn't change the coloring. Thats the one thing about the painting I was not real happy with. I will remember that for the next one. I can't change it as it is now in their home and they love it. Thanks for the confirmation.

I'd like to see the dog's face smooth and the boys face squished lol.

seriously though- more contrast.
That seems to be the number one problem I've noticed on the site.

Nice picture, but I have a problem with the hand. Looks like he has nails on the wrong side of his fingers.
