Laying in Space, a fairy

Postby hollieleffel » Thu Jun 03, 2010 10:37 am

This is a painting I did a while ago. I love unusual. Any critiques or opinions are greatly welcomed! Even the harshest opinions are accepted! i'm trying hard to get better and I need to know where I'm going wrong. I'm self taught so sometimes even the easiest beginner art concepts are new to me.
thanks so much for your time!!!

I really like how you have captured a real feeling of luminosity on the wings and sparkles, I feel the fairy herself is a little lost, maybe its the photo, but she could be more defined so she really pops off the dark ground.

WOW that's very beautiful! I wish I could paint something like that! I'm sure I could if I tried really hard, but my problem is that I haven't quite developed a skill for doing my own original work. A good majority of my work is what my friends and I call 'copy' art. Very good job :) I love the detail in it. It's really amazing!

I like the wings and her body but I think the blue looks a little rough. Not sure about her hair - pretty cool but which way do you want the hair? If you want it to look like real hair, add more flowing lines of different hue but in the same color spectrum...If you have your fairy in Space you'll want to not have it look like plant roots going into water. I would change the background - if you're out in Space, everything is super dark with bright white stars ranging in size from tiny to somewhat larger. The fairy's robe could use more depth and definition.
Thank You, E

I agree with my learned colleague E that outer space tends to be VERY black and stars very whiete and small. Plus where did the table come from? God? Sorry. She also looks way too comfortable to be stick in the middle of a VERY vast universe.
