I Like it, not sure about the tie though, but the pictures cool.

Thanks for the comments! I still have some work to do on this one. The tie does need much more work, I agree.

Looking good, Michael, you've captured his character nicely, I feel like I know him. Love the loose style and happy colours. Can't wait for the finished work.

He was a very happy guy. Big, loud and generous. We lost him last year to cancer.

I really like the style of the coat and tie - not understanding the blue streak on his collar but I can see where you're wanting to
ing it all together. His face looks warm and welcoming - Can't wait to see the finished product! E

Michael,
I'm so very sorry for your loss.

I had the same thought as Erika expressed...feeling like I know him.
I like this very much, nice loose style and I'm a fan of your color choice!
Looking forward to the finished work!

There is certainly a warmth and personality coming through. Pay attention to the shapes of the shadows. Although it appears you are using a reference photo, it also looks like you are painting the features the way you expect them to be rather than what you see. Try making a black and white copy of your reference. Then, take this photo of your painting and convert it to gray-scale. Comparing the 2 black and white images can be incredibly helpful. Good luck, it's a great start!

Nice expression. I like that he doesn't have a boring tie too.
