Dismal human nature

Postby Riaan Marais » Tue Oct 28, 2008 11:31 pm

Hi there. This image is not meant to be liked. It is one of those that should stir hidden emotions. I tried to portray inner turmoil, gloom and depression.

Did I succeed?

Hi Riaan Marais,

I am coming back to your image like a boomerang and can't believe what you have done. Oh my God, this image shows everything what you intended to show. I can read it clearly. Depression, gloom, pain, isolation, fear, disappointment, anger, hope and other emotions.

Colors you have chose for this work are very strong and show very well hell in our life on earth.

Very , very good job Riaan!
all the best

OH YA! You succeeded alright! Great work. I've been looking at it a couple of times already, and I see all you wanted to portray and more.
Really stirred me, now off to find my "happy place" again...lol!

Sorry, but I have to lift my leg and tinkle on the love fest.
Certainly well rendered but I have a hard time seeing
the 'nature' aspect - I see a man in a box and yes, it looks hot
and I think I see a fish(?) but not sure. I'd like to see
a more literal interpretation of the Natural dilemma for this one.

The nature part is not so much a reference to the "earth", but more to what the internal parts, the desperation humans find in them selves. I have done this picture a long time ago and I think I must therefore redo this one entirely. I will post something new on the subject soon.
Well, why are we here if not to create?

Rian; All I can say is that I'm on strong
pain medication - goin' in for a hip replacement
tomorrow. I got it into my crazy brain that this
was about ECO-Nature, not Human Nature.
No, your piece achieves your desired objectives,
hands down. Really, really, nice.

I think that I see the things that you listed mostly because you said that's what this picture repersents. I personally don't see gloom and depression. I see entrapment, rage, anger. Red is a very powerful color, very passionate. Depression and gloom usually aren't.

Since this is very old I'm sure your skill has improved since then and would love to see what you're doing now.
