When I hear/see "forged" I think of anvils and rather violent (or at least coercive) activity. The same goes for arranged marriages -- with the exception that most arranged marriages are entered into somewhat willingly, but there is still the idea of merging two entities which might be at complete odds with each other. The piece of red twine does have geat affect in symbolising an externally imposed "tie," but doesn't go far enough in implying the work involved in creating the union.
I just love these swans! They are so graceful and so lovingly entwined! I think I'd just change the motivation statement.
I also just saw a competition for 2 and 3 D paper artworks that this piece would rule. Now, if I could just remember where I saw that . . .
