Trihedron image: Birth of Dreams

Postby dallen88 » Thu Jun 29, 2006 2:10 pm

In this posting and the next two I have included 3 different images which are all related. For my current series of images I have been working on images in groups of three using computer-generated 2D and 3D imagery along with narrative text to abstractly convey storyline progression. Each group includes three parts which represent one of the storyline phases of birth, life or death.

Other images from this series may be viewd on my website at:

Ouch, over a week and no replies to any of the pieces! This is not a good sign at all.

The text makes the workss too finite for me. I could spend all day making up stories about the picture, but the text tells me directly what that story is, and I come away from the pieces without any kind of engaged feeling. Be careful when you use text in visual work, because it does narrow the meaning and tends to superscede the other formal qualities of the work.

Through the combination of text and graphic elements, it was my intent to gain more control over the interpretation of these images in this body of work. I can understand how some may perceive this as a more in-your-face approach to Art, and therefore turn people off. But I wanted to specifically direct/influence the viewer’s interpretation of the image(s) before them.

Great Job!!
Very unique and vivid!

I would have to agree about the text which was mentioned in a previous reply, but I also can relate to why you placed it.. therefore, my only suggestion for that would be is....

..play with the texts/fonts... try watermarking or taking the opaquness out of it.. so it is not so stark in contrast to your image... Right now, even though the text is small, it creates a definitive line that draws the eye... Let the image speak to the viewer.. as I think it does... and use the texts as an afterthought. Even large fonts with a translucent feel don't take away but can blend...

Play with it.. I think you are on a fabulous track.. and can't wait to see more. :)

Brightest Blessings!

Thanks for the feedback. I will definitly work on the opacity of the text within my future pieces to see if I can subdue those elements within the image a bit.
