A New Creation - Oil Painting

Postby T.Richmond » Wed Nov 20, 2013 9:05 pm

Hello ASC

Here is my latest oil painting that I have done for the 2013 Gamblin Torrit Grey Competition. I have to say I enjoyed creating this landscape with only the use of Torrit Grey (with Ivory and Titanium). I chose to give it the title Forgotten Memory, with the grey scale look, it feels as if your looking at a past memory long forgotten. The photos are not the greatest.

This little one I had made for a dear friend of mine as a birthday card and live far away for schooling, fist time painting lilacs though so it is no the best.
I also wrote a short poem on the back to keep the tradition

Normally one would send flowers on such a special day
Only to hold them before they fade away

Through tender care and wishful thought
we pray the petals do not drop

It soon becomes a pointless endeavour
But these flowers, will last forever.

The poem is perfect! I love your Torrit grey rendering - as always, a beautifully constructed layout -
and the grey looks good! I love the Lilacs, also - they will indeed, never fade. Thank You, E

I like it so much. The grey scale is well done, with a beautiful light.

I love the landscape. Looks like something out of a movie setting. Great job.

all the best,

Thank you all very much , I am glad you like them.

I was hesitant with a few parts in the landscape, the bridge especially considering I never attempted a structure before.
Basically I was going for a scene where the light source was directed towards the center, leaving the two sides in near darkness due to the foliage blocking the source and only having faint areas showing.

Unfortunately you can not see it clearly but on the right is a hillside rising towards the background with trees, rock and shrubbery trailing. On the left it is a dark forest that extends to the back ground as well. The farther back it goes, the less visible it becomes.

Light rays were thought of but I had run out of time to complete it, all though in my current piece, I am considering trying such a technique in a underwater landscape.

Great artwork. Very lugubrious but in a nice way if that makes any sense. Yes, a scene from a film indeed. Well done.
