Photos for new painting series

Postby ehoeveler » Fri Mar 16, 2007 3:21 am

Hi, everybody; If I didn't tell you before, I'm from Atlanta, Ga.
The United States, as you know, has had a devastating Slavery
and Segregation situation starting from the late 1700s' up 'til the
1970s'. There are many who feel that the problem is not over
even today. Understandably, the bad feelings and mistrust will
take some time to go away.
I would like to do my part in healing the deep wounds between
African-Americans and Whites by painting a series of pictures
tentatively called 'Racial Harmony', or words to that effect. They
cover people working and shopping together, two areas where
people have to come together for a common goal - earning
a living and enjoying the fruits of their labor with shopping.
I would like to take my time with the series and do a really good
job. I'm hoping you all can give me on-going critiques in the 'Be
Gentle' and 'Ready for the Fury' forums.
Here are some photos I will use for my paintings, shot with your
basic Fuji 7 Megapixel Digital.
Thanks, ehoeveler

Elizabeth, that's an excellent idea! But, looking at the pics, I'd like to make some comments. Let me think about it first. I'll come back later.E

Elizabeth, for a project of this magnitude, I hope you go beyond those areas with this. And you take tons of pics, because these are just some black and white people posing together for camera. I'd have my camera all the time with me and take snapshots of real life mementos of mixed families or friends. People helping out each other. Kids playing together. Old age interaction...and the list goes on.
Great project though. And one that can stir emotion. But I know you don't shy away from a little controversy.

Hi, Erika, thanks for your input. I think you are right. I will continue to take pics and make them a little more interactive. E

Your project is a wonderful idea, but I kind of agree with Erika that they shouldn't be too posed---the unexpected candid shots are usually the best...and perhaps at some kind of event??? Like a flea market...type thing...some kind of public affair were lots of people mingle about--I took some great shots years ago for instance at a powwow--and I have one of my shots posted there of a young Osage girl--completley candid shot...

Thanks, Guys; I'll see what I can come up with. The only problem
I have is that my Fuji can't take a good action shot, or I don't know how to take an action shot with the Fuji! Help.
BTW, Pye, have you checked out the photo contests listed in this forum?
I can't imagine you not winning one of those. Your style is warm and sensitive, a nice alternative to the hard,
ight or freaky stuff I see alot of.
I do like the hard,
ight and the freaky, but it's nice to see something different. Elizabeth
