Re: I need some suggestions! Please help!!

Do you have any graphic design programs? Like photshop or illustrator? You can play around with color and composition in those before commiting to a picture.

They can get sort of pricy but gimp and paint.net are free. I think if you are unsure then playing around in those programs could help.

Re: I need some suggestions! Please help!!

I'm not really a color theorist but why not check out the color wheel and pick the opposite of whatever your major color is for the background of the elephant? That will make the colors pop. Here's a handy website tool. It's for builiding websites but the theory is sound. http://colorschemedesigner....

Re: Pay to Hang

Wow! Can't believe you've never run into a vanity gallery! That's good luck for you! As for charging commisions, I've seen some that do and some that do not. The ones that do vary greatly. Some charge a very low commision (10-20%) other's charge very high (40-50%). I forgot to mention co-ops in my e...

Pay to Hang

Hello all, I was wondering how everyone felt about those galleries that charge a fee to hang? I am not speaking about juried shows that have fees to enter or even consigment shops that sell most times tons of things. I am talking about the "vanity gallery". I see these sorts of places quit...

Re: Acrylic or Oil

I find that when I use oil techiniques (like multiple glazes) I get a more oil like finish. Nothing else moves like oil on the canvas but you can add things to acrylic to make it better. Also, don't use cheap acrylics. I find that working with paint that is more "higher end" really helps m...

Re: This is the first one I made to sell

I would put fine art in my kid's room. Start them down the right path early. :) Anyway, I love the lion. That lion is awesome. I can see doing a bunch of animals in that style. The daddy picture is better, you fixed the arms. I would say that the black is very harsh though. Is that black straight fr...

Re: No Focus

Maybe you're just tired. I know sometimes I have to take like days (sometimes even weeks!) off art so I can reset myself. Maybe you just need a break. Instead of planning art, just take a I'll get to it when I get to it attitude. And don't beat yourself up if you don't. I'm sure you'll find after a ...

Re: Tied To Technology

I dig the concept. And I like the colors. And the background is really cool.

Howeve, the person's on the right's head is sort of a bit to large. And maybe some deeper shadows on the figures would make the peice pop more.

Re: Don't Worry Darling, You'll Learn to Love the Night

No, the romance was what I was going for :). Vampires are very romantic. But they're still monsters. True story.

Re: First time posting

If you put a napkin or a piece of white paper over the flash it helps to defuse the light so it's softer. Not a pefect fix but it works. Just a tip. I like the gecko. Its very fun. Also your first piece is very classic and bright. Very pretty. In the Daddy piece it looks like you missed some sky in ...
