Re: Drawing of Renee O'Connor

Hello, I applaud you on your drawings. Portrait work is not easy. I have looked at a few of your drawings and they all seem to have the same issue. Your eyes tend to be small and close to the nose. The face should be able to fit five eyes across. I did a quick measurement and you could fit at least ...

Re: Darkness: An experiment with my new Gimp software

You should totally try some layers. Here's an experiement, just duplicate your current layer and then set the new layer to multiply. It will darken the colors, make your shadows deeper. A wacom tablet would really help you. I got a small pen one from Amazon a year ago for $60. When you're starting y...

Re: Golden Goddess

I sort of like the melting action. I'm weird like that. Thank you for taking the time I think I'm going put this on the docket for a completed work :)

Re: Darkness: An experiment with my new Gimp software

I see you used it to add some shadows to the skull. Fun. I would do some color correction on the red, make it a bit darker and organic looking? And some gradient values to the background. Maybe flesh out those clouds a bit. Isn't digital art fun? Are you using layers and such for your work? Sorry fo...

Re: Looking for Critiques...

I'm currently using Gimp along with CoralDraw Select and the free version of Serif DrawPlus. My scaner came with ArcSoft Photostudio 2000 which works very good. Most scanners will come with a pretty good PS type program. I am using Photoshop and Painter. I was using paint.net until I got photoshop ...

Re: Looking for Critiques...

I want to invest in ascanner, bjt I'm only 17 and I just started working,. Dude, flatbed scanners are super cheap. I brought a nice one for under $100. Such a good investment! Until you can get the funds together for that, here are some other tricks. Paint.net & Gimp are both free photoshop lik...

Golden Goddess

This is a photo manpulation I did in photoshop. I am actually wondering if anyone has any tips on how to mimic this effect in actual paints. Comments and critiques are welcome.

Re: Looking for Critiques...

I like the picture. Totally dig the shirt. Ok, this might seem just a tad nitpicky BUT I only say this to help. The actual photo is way blurry and dark. So even though it looks like it's a totally cool piece of work you can't really see how good it is. You can either clean up your photos in gimp or ...

Re: win8 and photo shop

I have Win 7 with photoshop. Not planning to get 8 anytime soon.

Ehoeveler, I'm pretty sure you can upgrade to 7. Vista had way too many issues. What PS do you have? I have CS6 (that's the latest right? I'm bad with numbers) and haven't had any issues.

Re: Gimp Photoshop

Gimp is def legit. It's a good replacement when you can't afford PS. Also paint.net isn't too shabby and also free.

I have and use photoshop. It's pretty great.

Re: New Work

I don't know, I actually would like to see a very dark background on it. Maybe a super so dark it looks black red. To me that would just make the leaf jump right off the page.

Re: new

I really like the lips in this actually and the nose is much better here. Are you trying to go for something closer to realism? do you work with guidelines when drawing faces? I would suggest it here. The eye should be lower and closer to the nose. Some shading would help define the curves of the fa...

Re: Pay to Hang

A vanity gallery is an art gallery that charges artists fees to exhibit their work and makes most of its money from artists rather than from sales to the public. Some vanity galleries charge a lump sum to arrange an exhibition, while others ask artists to pay regular membership fees and then promis...

Re: Acrylic or Oil

Comprehensive I mean you con do more techniques with the oil then the acrylic. I don't really agree with that. I am hardpressed to think of one technique that you can do with oils that you can't do with acrylics given practice. It's true that straight out of the tube they are not even close to the ...

Re: Dreaming of Ziggurats

Thank you. I actually darkened those lines to give it more of a comic feel. Maybe I went a little overboard :) I'll keep that in mind in my next pieces.

Re: Cutting old paint brushes

I have done that before. Lately I've been throwing out a ton of paint brushes. Working with acrylics they get really beat up. I also have the terrible habit of letting them sit in water and turp when I'm not using them. I know, that's terrible.
