Actually I paint from light to dark, painting ALL the light colors in, even if roughly, then to the different shades in between not really concentrating on the detail until i see that all the colors will blend or contrast, depending on what i want it to do, then i start on the edges of the main subj...

No, none at all. It just happened to fall that way but it does add to the pose and causes one to be directed to the detail of the rock and moccasins, turned out very nice.

John, I use Grumbacher Academy oils on Masonite board. The colors retain their vividness where I want it to remain such and the board gives me a good hard crisp edge, which helps in constrast work, backgrounds and especially in detail. I've worked on canvas for many years but I always had misginings...
