Re: Sleeping Beauty

2) I traced an outline of the statue from the best large photo I could find and then began to fill in the missing detail from other photos. I added in some shading to the tracing, as well. I always construct my drawings and painting first on tracing paper. I do so because it's cheap and I can flip i...

Re: Sleeping Beauty

1) I collected as many internet photos I could find. I'm in the DC suburbs, the statue is in Germany and I'm not wealthy. So I had to collect reference from a distance. While there are plenty of photos, not many are hi-rez and there's probably much detail I am missing, but one does what one can. The...

Sleeping Beauty

Below are my comments, thoughts and steps taken in preparation fora painting of "Sleeping Beauty." The procedures explained and shown are very similar to those I use for most paintings. So far I am up to the finished 'cartoon' stage for this painting. Soon I will mount a copy of the drawin...

Re: Next up: Ophelia

Maybe a few tweaks, but this is pretty much done. I'll be showing it next week at an art show in Reading, PA.

Re: Next up: Ophelia

Update. About 2/3 complete.

Most of the background is done save for the right-hand side. Blocked in tones and a few colors on the figure. Being Ophelia her dress should be white, but the brightest of the white will be quite toned down.

One week left to hopefully finish.

Re: Next up: Ophelia

Usually I paint indirectly and glaze my paintings in many layers. For Ophelia I'll primarily be painting directly and will glaze in a few places as the painting gets down to it's final stages. I decided to do this because I thought it would best suit the the look of the landscape. So here I've decid...

Re: Next up: Ophelia

After the drawing was finished (about sixty hours in seven days) I took a photo of it with my DSRL. That image was then printed out the same size of the drawing (26x28). This print was then adhered onto hardboard (aka Masonite). I first covered both sides of the board with gesso and then adhered the...

Next up: Ophelia

Moving on to my next painting which I will begin painting this week. The subject is "Ophelia" from Hamlet. A troubled character from the play by Shakespeare whom many artists have attempted to capture on canvas. Probably the best known effort (and the best overall effort) is the masterpiec...

Re: Begining: Tristan & Isolde

Thanks, it's an interesting idea. But my hands are full as it is and if anything I am hoping to do a Kickstarter next year to help finance a book of my drawings. The drawing of this painting will probably be in there.

Re: Begining: Tristan & Isolde

Just a little tweaking left but for all intents and purposes this is done. I gave myself a deadline of mid to late September and finish about two weeks earlier, but I was putting in ten to twelve hour days. Now on to the next painting. Thanks to all who looked.
