Re: Main Challenges for New Artists

I read that most artists who do gain significant recognition get it after they have become 50. But that's just statistics. Clearly, before 'getting one's name out there' one should have cultivated some notable art. In spite of everything, I still believe the art has to speak for itself. I have heard...

Re: A Distant Dot-Final

Hello 'DK'- Thanks for posting your completed ink drawing. I love how you have finished it- but as well, how you so very extensively proceeded through the whole of it. I love that fine verticle to the left of the white area, allowing a sort of graduation from the dark to the white area. The way I ha...

Re: New Work

Hello. Due to my hyper-sensitivity to light the only way I can see a sunset like that is through photography. (I once severely damaged my eyes by looking too long at the sun.) Your image is reminding me of my 'new birth' after heart surgery, and I could see the effects of early morning in that quiet...

Re: Choosing the Right Varnish?

Hello. I have a number of paintings that are way too glossy! I am sure that can be amended, and I am not worried about it anymore. My mistake had been ( being essentially self-taught) that varnish was to be used undiluted. Big error! Half and half damar with turpentine is usually recommended, loosel...

Re: Progressive Spills WIP

Go for it! I have found myself reconsidering my suggestion- I notice there are lots of smaller white spaces already. Gorgeous!

Re: A current work in progress

Wonderful comments, Liz- thank you for really looking! The man is a very rich man, owner of Boston Pizza and co-owner of Mr. Lube. He lives in Texas, but is Canadian and appears on " Dragon's Den, a C.B.C. production. 'Jim Treliving'.

Re: Failed Chuck Close attempt

You are certainly dedicated, and there are lots of effects that come through due to the endless labor and variations you're painting. Sure doesn't seem at all 'failed' to me! Do we really need another Chuck Close painting? You could say it's "Not Real Close" and be very happy with that. He...

A current work in progress

Hello. I don't normally do this, submit a painting I am involved in, since I am sensitive to ALL I hear in response to my work. But this painting has been around a long time and has been through many changes already. You might say it's been tested to death. At one point a man in England had commissi...

Re: Progressive Spills WIP

Hi 'DK'- I am new here. This is my second text post I think. I hope I am not misunderstood with this comment, but 'from here' this could have been called complete at any time on this whole page. It is fantastic already, and I am pretty sure that my mind, as it is, would just get clogged if there wer...
