Re: Grand Canyon V

Good morning. This is a one post episode. I had to go back in and do some more drawing on the canvas. Some manipulation with the forms, again. That strong dark angled strike in the sky demanded that the sudden downward view motion in the viewer had to be stopped within the painting. So, I changed th...

Re: Grand Canyon V

Good evening. This is the last post for the day. Have to attend to feeding the dogs and preparing dinner as well as reconnecting with my wife. It is going to be a pleasant evening here. I am satisfied with the think, think, think, and then the do process on this painting. When working with the knife...

Re: Carl Owens, look what you made me do!

Glad you see it. Sometimes I receive a critique about something and it takes me days to see it, if at all. As an aside, we can accept the critique or not, simply because we are our own bosses. Kind of nice. Look forward to seeing your next one.

Re: Carl Owens, look what you made me do!

Glad I made you laugh. The half and half I referred to was half blue and half green. Got to be careful about color dominance. Visual horizontal planes constantly violate the one third rule. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. It depends on what is presented and how it is presented.

Re: Grand Canyon V

Thanks for taking the time to comment Joseph. I cannot count the number of times I have been compared to Van Gogh. Actually, I do not like his work. But, I think I understand his quest as I think I am on the same road. We can discuss that at a later time if you wish. As to the painting, no, the sky ...

Re: Carl Owens, look what you made me do!

Just getting ready to post my latest update for Grand Canyon V when I took a detour to check out this latest entry. I have a few things to say. First, be careful about not having a dominate color. This looks about half and half. The half and half thing caught my attention first. Bad thing. The first...

Re: Grand Canyon V

Good morning. Two progress posts today. The first post is to show the beginning of the pallet knife overlay to enhance the clouds. The second post is the finished sky, I think.

Re: Grand Canyon V

Good afternoon. I have three painted posts on this one. I thought I would show the process of laying the colors, and dabbling them in the two sections of upper and lower. This sky is very active as if a storm is brewing but not yet arrived. I have decided to do it that way to introduce an element of...

Re: Grand Canyon VI

Good afternoon. The white sky background is dry enough to work on, so of course I did. The idea of using only pallet knife for the color upon the white background did not work. So I returned to smearing and dabbing the paint on with the paper towel routine. Got what I wanted for the sky in this pain...

Re: How do you put life into a "Still Life"?

Thank you for the clarification of your previous comment. I appreciate your valuation of my work. My wife has recovered nicely, thanks for your concern.

Re: Grand Canyon VI

Good morning Joseph. Thanks for your comments. Let's me know I am on the right track. Yes, without the challenge it becomes boring and not really worth the effort. But the learning is worth every effort. I have painted the way you say you do, a lot. It is a pleasant creative experience, enjoyable ac...

Re: Grand Canyon VI

Good afternoon. Another only one post. Had to work out concepts about how to present the feeling of being drawn into the canyon while standing on the top ledge looking down into the canyon. I think I about got it with the drawing. The painting will require more thought about directionality of the kn...

Good morning. Just one post today. Continuing to work on the bottom. Working on getting that stepping down feeling into the canyon with the cliff arrangements.

Re: Grand Canyon VI

Good afternoon. I have two posts for today. It has been a few days since the last post. Takes me longer to get things done these days. Anyway, I knew this one would be a challenge for my skills developed to date. Of course that is why I chose to do it. I have had to take some time to think this one....

Re: Grand Canyon V

Good morning Joseph. Yes I have tried them. To me it is much like drawing, but without the ability to do the finite detail one can achieve with a pencil point. Of course if I spent some time learning them that issue would be worked out. But, there is just something about them that I don't care for. ...
